Oh Alaska(n)

Being able to set the tone is absolutely one of the best parts about being a captain. You are honestly the first person I’ve ever heard of that doesn’t understand that.

Oh I understand it. That isn’t the point. Taking it in totality, conflicts with some CAs at XOJet, putting AS CRM training down, and having issues with a couple AS CAs, and publicly bashing AS and how bad QOL is, but willing to be bottom barrel reserve, well the problem just might not be all those previous CAs…

If you spread that out over a decade or two, it doesn’t seem like that big a deal to me. In other words, I’m not sure BEEF is the problem. If you’re going to sit here and tell us you’ve never had a personality conflict with anyone at work, I’m going to tell you your self awareness is zero. But hey, maybe you’re just being the devil’s advocate, as you’re wont to do.

Of course. There are a few problem children at any airline. I however choose not to trash the airline’s CRM program, or blame CAs, nor did I take the first possible upgrade so I could set the tone. I made QOL decisions. To each their own I suppose. Just as long as the record is clear that there isn’t a CRM problem at this airline, and most overwhelming majority of CAs are good people. A few bad apples, like any airline.

Looks like one guy who was younger and senior to me, left AS and quit 121 flying. For me instead of retiring #3, now it's #2.

Probably an irrelevant metric, as I highly doubt this place will still be the current name over the next 28 yrs. Merged, acquired, out of business, or I don't make it to 65.

Hopefully you make it onto the wall of legends before we are acquired by a real airline.

I just looked in Merriam Websters. That post was under the definition of a humble brag. Who're we kidding. You're not humble.

At least a dozen captains that I have flown with over the last two system bids (and enjoyed flying with BTW) have told me that is what prompted them to upgrade. Why they knew they were ready. And why they decided to live with the loss of QOL that came with the decision.
Yep. It’s 100% why I’m doing the same thing.
My #1 reason for upgrading too. Especially at this place with it's reputation of interesting people in the left seat compared to VX (with some exceptions).

How is that a humble brag when I work for, and I quote…

the worst non regional airline a pilot can be at

More like a consolation prize?

I’ll be #2 and you got me like:

One of the guys I fly with is retired Alaska, was a flt tech ops pilot. Was one of 4 pilots who designed the RNP approaches in Alaska, incorporating the planes and avionics, procedures, etc. good dude.

Hal? He did my type ride. Feel very lucky I was able to meet him.

One of the other guys involved was flying medevac with us until an injury and other medical conditions took him out of flying.

It’s funny, and maybe of no direct relevance to the thread; still, I worked at several places o’er the decades that were simultaneously the best and worst places ever. No regrets having worked at any of them, tho’ I might make other choices with a Mulligan and the insight I have now. IDK …

Sometimes the worst places generate the most fond memories.

You should have 'em tell the stories about trying to design RNP approaches in China and how they got their runway data. :D
