Section of plane blows out mid-air, makes emergency landing in Portland

An Alaska Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Portland International Airport on Friday night after a large window section of the aircraft blew out in mid-air, according to several passengers.

Alaska flight 1282, an 737-Max9 experienced explosive decompression. A section of the fuselage (emergency door?) and a thankfully empty seat blew out the side. The aircraft was manufactured in November 2023.

Not sure how they are deactivated but yes they are.

Why not just keep them as an exit door, whether used or not? Or is it to just get another row or two of seats?

Other way around to my knowledge, carriers that want to run the airplane high density need the extra exit.
