** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Thread

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

Hmm.... Well I'd definitely love to start flying. I'll have to get my License.

So does anyone know how soon one can transfer to another airport? I mean, as beautiful as the Grand Canyon is, I would like to live in a town/city. Haha. Flagstaff being an hour away is not good enough for me. :) I look forward to going out there yes, but probably only for the minimum time. So, I'm not sure if I read correctly on a previous post but it is easier to get certifications done at a smaller less busy airport??

Sorry for the all the questions guys and gals. I just found out yesterday I would be going to GCN so I'm just trying to find the positives in headin' up to the Canyon.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

Well Here's a fun one!!!

So I emailed HR Sunday night and they responded to me via email " We cannot issue a class date until we get to DVT (Phoenix Deer Valley) people"

Then Tuesday They called me! SO for those holding your breath, Email HR! Seems to be the way to get their attention.

So now the bad news for me,

Deer Valley didn't have enough people retire, to my HR rep told me over the phone that I can wait til fiscal year 2011 to start training, or I can accept a transfer. Well.. the only place they could transfer me to was Grand Canyon.

I accepted right away of course, but It was a shock and will take some getting used to. moving from a level 8 to a level 5. Also, my HR rep didn't even offer me a class date but he did tell me I would have it in a FOL email by the end of the week, so we'll see.

Has anyone flown in or out of Grand Canyon Airport? Besides the obvious, what else is there? I've been googling the area and it seems like almost no thing is there accept for flagstaff 60 miles away.

Sounds like I'll pass on calling HR for a while then. Not that it makes any difference for whether they move you or not. Wouldn't want to end up getting shipped to Guam.

in the old contract i believe it was 2 years after CPC. it probably changed(for the better) so take a peek at the contract negotiations thread and look it up. after you put a bid in, it could take an other year or more before you actually get to make the move.

as for getting CPC, it's easier on lower level towers for two reasons. First of all, the traffic is easier so you'll have more "slower" times where effective training is possible(training hours). second of all, slower towers have fewer employee's (and usually needs fewer trainees). This means you shouldnt need to compete as much for training hours to get to CPC. On the other hand, there are fewer OTJ trainers which could cause a bottleneck for training...but this usually isnt the case.

any other questions?

Hey thanks for the info! I appreciate that.

Now I just need to figure out where people live around there...

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

Apparently HR is swap happy this year.

No slots for FY10 for NEW.

swapped to SHV(which im assuming is shreveport).

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

Are you guys getting emails, phone calls, or both for these swaps? Hopefully all this swapping means class dates soon...

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

Is all the swapping because of the new "wash out" contract rules? Where trainees in larger 11-12's will flow back to say 7,8,9 facilities and thus pushing the OKC crowd to other facilities?

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

I'm no expert but I wouldn't think the new contracts would have any impact yet. I'm thinking it's more of the unorganization side of things... they're realizing... Oh, we promised 10 people for fac. xyz without totally assessing that tower abc is beyond hurting.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

yea, I took a risk and emailed EM, it took her a day & a half but I got... "I'll get back to you soon."

I was nervous after I sent the email that I'd get re-assigned. I guess I'm good though. I'm pretty happy with the up/down I'm assigned to.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

I'm pubnat3, got my TOL back in April. Got a call yesterday for a september 24th class date. That was with a deferral on my medical clearance.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

Just to add to the rumor pool, an instructor told me today during labs that PUBNAT8 was the LAST PUBNAT and that they're going back to CTI/Military hiring...

So with that being said, let's see what happens in the next 6 months. I've learned to take what instructors say (in regard to applications) with a grain of salt.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

do you care to tell us where? It might not be so bad, you'll just have to realize there is life after Cali. I think if I was told I'd have a 2year wait, I'd do the same and pack it up & head east.

West Virginia
