** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Thread

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

I had to call aviation careers to find out if all my clearances were in because I have never really gotten a response from my hr. They said everything was in but my security was only conditional and I wouldn’t get a class date until it was a full clearance. I said o ok but pretty sure she was wrong.

She is wrong. HR will issue a class date before your full clearance comes in....if they waited for everyones full clearance to come in, it would delay the process another 8-12 months. I know scores of folks who went to OKC with a conditional.....and honestly, unless you have MK-19's in your basement or a Pot Farm in your attic, if you have a conditional clearance you will more than likely get the full go ahead....it just takes the OPM time.

Is a pot farm like making your own pottery? Ceramics? :rotfl:

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

I decided to grow my hair out and a beard...you guys need to step up your waiting game

No beard for me, but my hair is getting pretty long (almost 1/2 way down my back now), maybe I will chop it and donate it to Wigs for Kids to celebrate my class date... hopefully its not to my knees by then!

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

My HR called me today, he had me change fac. from west coast to east coast :-\

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

Since I have nothing to do but wait for fol/academy I am growing a beard. Whos with me!

Yeah, that seems like the appropriate response. I'm in. Starting September 8, no more shaving for me.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

Was it a good swap for you?

it would get me into OKC faster cause my original fac was full till FY 2012 is what i do believed he said.

so it was the best choice. but i sooooo dont want this airport or even the state. o well

Man, I feel your pain. My HR rep called me today too offering me a lvl 7 tower in a neighboring state instead of the lvl 8 that is a 20 min drive from my current residence. I really don't wanna make that switch but he told me I could be waiting another year or two for a position to open at the tower they put in my TOL. Super frustrated right now.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

do you care to tell us where? It might not be so bad, you'll just have to realize there is life after Cali. I think if I was told I'd have a 2year wait, I'd do the same and pack it up & head east.

oh me too. but then i live in southeast louisiana....and the only way you could get any worse than that is to send me farther northwest.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

I'll say I'm quite enthused about the willingness of those to grow a beard. Here is what I say we do.......When we get an email/phone call from our HR rep to say what our class date is we must do the following:
1. Take self picture of said beard undergrowth
2. Ensure the picture is attached to your class date announcment on JC
3. Shave your beard, sell the hair on craigslist.....Rosta will buy it depending on it's color and texture, or how desperate he is for another plane ticket to OKC.

An you guys better look like Whino's, I mean, hey, your growning a beard. So either you must look like a whino in the picture or you must be wearing: Jeans pants, a jeans shirt, and a jeans jacket (it's the rule of facial hair proclaimed on Family guy).

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

Well Here's a fun one!!!

So I emailed HR Sunday night and they responded to me via email " We cannot issue a class date until we get to DVT (Phoenix Deer Valley) people"

Then Tuesday They called me! SO for those holding your breath, Email HR! Seems to be the way to get their attention.

So now the bad news for me,

Deer Valley didn't have enough people retire, to my HR rep told me over the phone that I can wait til fiscal year 2011 to start training, or I can accept a transfer. Well.. the only place they could transfer me to was Grand Canyon.

I accepted right away of course, but It was a shock and will take some getting used to. moving from a level 8 to a level 5. Also, my HR rep didn't even offer me a class date but he did tell me I would have it in a FOL email by the end of the week, so we'll see.

Has anyone flown in or out of Grand Canyon Airport? Besides the obvious, what else is there? I've been googling the area and it seems like almost no thing is there accept for flagstaff 60 miles away.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

So I guess for us facility transfer peeps, We need to know how soon we can transfer out of a facility? i anyone has the info to this that would be nice.

Also, is there any benefits to being at a much smaller facility, such as getting certifications faster? No night shifts, or things of that nature??

Thats too bad. Would've like to have met at DVT at some point. Northern AZ is actually very beautiful. FLG is nearby as you say and is the biggest metor-type area nearby. You have Williams and a little further, Prescott. That Kaibab/Coconino National Forest area is great hiking, good skiing areas at Snowbowl, a nice lake at Lake Mary, and other things to do.

Checkout times can be much shorter; I think where I'm going (level 6, pending I don't get the "West Coast Curse" for a midwest facility) has a checkout time of less than a year. You automatically start at D2. Also, they are only open from 6AM-Midnight, so you don't have overnights. It has its perks, but you "pay" for it with a lower salary.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

I like night shifts. I've worked them at a couple of my previous jobs. You get off early in the morning and you've got the whole day ahead of you to sleep and/or do whatever you want. It's like having an extra day off even though you worked that day.

MAN! GCN must REALLY be hurting! There's 2 in my Initial Tower Cab class going there and another one either ahead or behind them. From what Andy has told me (he's one of the people going there) there's not much to do. Get your pilots license and save up some money for your own plane. You'll probably be flying a lot out there.
