** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Thread

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

I saw someone on here that is going to ZOB and has a class date of May 28th, so maybe just the terminals are on the back burner...I'm just speculating here. ZOB was actually my first choice, but I am happy to be going to CLE instead, now that I have toured the tower. I'm thinking I have a much better chance of not washing out at the level 10 as opposed to the level 12.

Looks like I'm quite popular on here :P Yeah, it was wierd i didn't get picked up for pubnat 2 then got that Louisiana email. Now I'm waiting until the next FY. Also had to retake the MMPI. So this is def. a rocky road...

Good thing this is the official thread. I got tired of the counterfeit ones.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

I was told that my facility has reached its hiring goals for 2009 and not to expect a class date any sooner than October 1st.

My facility is DVT (Deer Valley AZ)

I haven't found anyone on any forums also going to that facility. Anybody gonna be with me in AZ??

Umm Kind of. What do you make of the traffic volume at the airport? Maybe compared to other airports in or near Phoenix. Good Year, Sky Harbor?

Also, I know with the mountains right near the runways do you think that has much bearing on a pilot or controller's abilities?

I live in Idaho right now but I've been out to the DVT Airport. Just curious what I'm in for.

DVT is one of the busiest airports for General Aviation flight training. Also prevelant are other GA ops....light planes, etc.....some corporate but not alot as compared to Scottsdale, etc. And the Phoenix PD Aviation unit is based there. GYR is mostly flight training with the Lufthansa Training Center located there, and a ton of stored airliners.....kind of Mojave, CA-like in that realm....that's their major business there. PHX is PHX.....major airline hub. SDL is primarily corporate and other GA.

The mountains to the west are too far away across I-17 to be much of a factor, the ones to the east just east of Runways 25 shorten the pattern up a bit, but aren't that bad at all. DVT gets a BRITE scope feed from Luke AFB still, if I'm not mistaken; and the Tower's operating hours are 0600-2100.

Ya 600-2100 was a pleasant surprise when I started researching the facility. Also it's a level 8 which is nice, but I wonder with the amount of traffic in and out if it could be higher. Either way it should be an exciting facility for me to start my career. it will be nice to not have the stress of a bunch of 747's with 250 passengers on them. I love the Area down there too.

Hopefully I can take up flying as a hobby as well.

I don't want to make too big of a deal about it, because I'm sure you didn't mean that (I hope).

But a mid-air is a mid-air, whether there are 2 souls on board or 250, hopefully you take it just as serious when it is only Cessnas and Pipers as you would with the heavies. Hopefully you are taking it serious when I am putting around up there in a C-172 or similar.

oh, you know what he means. im sure he'd be a johnny on the spot controller no matter whats flying his way. theres just an inclining terror factor with the number of endings a few vs. hundreds of lives in an accidental call. either way it's terrible, but at least IF it happends(it wont), minimal lives would be lost.

thats the train of thought he probobly had.

Some guys prefer working light GA aircraft more than they like air carrier traffic, or ATC facilities that aren't 24 hour.....personal preference is all.

Just as in the fire department....some people love the busy as hell stations, others like the quieter ones.

Ya you pretty much shouldn't make a big deal about that. And I shouldn't even have to explain myself here. However, I know people on these forums like to freak out because things get misconstrued. Obviously, I believe every soul in the sky is precious and I'm going to bust my butt to become the best controller I can be.

I have family members who are flight attendants for SWA and Alaska Air. I've flown my whole life and I know how stressful Major Airports can be. Thats all I was alluding to.
