Official PUBNAT2 Referral List

Re: PUBNAT2 Referral List?

My friend is a controller and he said they look at your application, its not all about the scores. People with stuff that stands out will most likely get selected. Like an aviation background, i have one, most of us have a good head start from people that don't know anything about ATC.

I won't say that an aviation background wont help because it will....Most air traffic controllers are not aviators...

Now lets say you have flown f-16's for the past 5 years and scored a qualified....that would stand out. But flying a piper cub as a civilian doesnt make you more qualified. You dont get to skip Atc basics because of this...

Your overall life experience will make the difference.
College Grad Vs High school grad
Hon. Dishcarge Vs never served
Wal-mart Manager Vs Wal-mart greeter...
Aviation experience Vs Non........
Well Qualified Vs Qualified

Re: PUBNAT2 Referral List?

No offense, but i don't think that they will even look at the qualified applicants until they run out of well qualified applicants, no matter what your background is. I don't think that they will make it to qualified applicants in Ga and Fl, they may be the most picked out of any.

Unless you've got inside information that none of the rest us have, I'll have to assume this the sort of juvenile, preening post that really drags this board down. The point of this forum is for us to help each other out. Beyond "I think," do you have some definite basis for your little reality check?

During my flight back from PEPC I was able to speak to an FAA employee who is involved in the hiring process. According to her when they look at "well qualified" apllicants first. I am not saying this is definitive answer, this is just what I was told.

P.S. Comments like "I'll have to assume this the sort of juvenile, preening post that really drags this board down." is what keeps people from putting their two sense in. Let's try to be a little more polite next time.

Are you looking for something more than "because the FAA said so" ??

edit: aww esw, you beat me :)

From what I can tell, nobody here has said anything other than I think. Why is he any less entitled to his opinion than someone else? From what I can tell, nobody knows anything and so anything you read at all needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

Re: PUBNAT2 Referral List?

I'm a well qualified applicant. I went on a tour of the nearest en route center, and the managers there offhandedly told me if I put in for their center, I would probably get picked. My BS alarm sounded for two reasons. One- I have absolutely zero background in aviation. Two- they were glancing at their watches, etc.. while they were talking to me. Maybe they were being earnest. Maybe they were just humoring the applicant on tour.

The point is I don't know what's going to happen. None of us do. We don't even know the distribution of scores. Maybe there's only 150 well qualified PUBNAT2s, maybe there's over a 1000. Either scenario is possible, and depending on which one it is, the process will be radically different.

It just gets on my nerves when some posters here shoot others down based on nothing more than a hunch.

I am confused....are you not the one who shot down ATC Hopeful's opinion that may or my not have been base on a hunch?:D Please correct me if I am wrong.:)

Re: PUBNAT2 Referral List?

Man, i leave for a couple of hours to actually work while i am at work, and miss out on all the fun! If they didn't look at hiring all well qualified people first, then why would they even group us into the different categories instead of just having a "passed" category. My whole point of the post was to say that it probably isn't a good idea to pick states that many well qualified applicants can't even be placed in(Hence PUBNAT1). Like i have said before, if i was in the qualified group i would pick less popular locations.

Well sir...I have a relative in managment at an enroute center...and I can verify that the do hire people with zero aviation experience for this job. Also...did you consider that the manager giving you this tour was being polite...but maybe had better things to do....

Thoughts going through this managers head were..." Hmmmm... I wonder if I have time to warm up that burrito since I got stuck giving this tour".

or

"man, I need to relieve the operations manager at the watch desk...how fast can I shuffle this kid through." you should have had the Natca rep give you the tour because he most likely already ate his burrito. :bandit:

Re: PUBNAT2 Referral List?

You can have zero aviation experience and still get hired. I don't have any (except for a couple CTI courses) and I'm going to Atlanta Center, and I know for a fact I'm not in the minority there. Also, most places I've been able to tour are low on staff and have much more important things to do and yet they've gone out of their way to show me around as much as possible.

I can't believe people get so bent out of shape over what someone says on a message board. I wonder how these people react to issues in real life? But i guess since no one wants my opinion, i will just go sit in the corner and read my AT-SAT score over and over again and remind myself how damn smart i am!:sarcasm:

Re: PUBNAT2 Referral List?

I wish a 100 meant you automatically got the location you wanted and got expedited training and got your FOL within 1 month....but it doesn't mean crap from what I can tell, so why did I try so hard?:)

Re: PUBNAT2 Referral List?

Good News!

I just called the Aviation Careers division... mostly because I like the voice of the recording "no agents are available to take your call..."

Anyway... I was told the referral lists have been created for PubNat2 and should be viewable soon.

I'll believe it when I see it :p

But that is awesome news :panic:

Re: PUBNAT2 Referral List?

That would be awesome, hopefully they are viewable soon, do you know what happens after you pass the ATSAT but apply to future PUBNATS? For example if I was on this referral list but not recommended for the interview, and applied to PUBNAT 6, would I skip the first couple steps with my ATSAT on record and than get a Geographic Preference e-mail for that PUBNAT when its available, and than be considered for that referral list?

You won't have to retake the AT-SAT as long as it hasn't been more than 3 years since the first time you took it :panic: So you would get to skip the AT-SAT part (but you'd still have to wait for the rest of the announcement to take it) and you'd continue the process again when they send out the geo pref emails
