Official: More CMR Furloughs

The lie that a low time pilot can go to a regional because of a pilot shortage and within a few years be flying a WB for a major all over the world making large dollars and living the life.

That's not a lie. It's a reality for a small percentage of pilots. The true problem is when marketing decides to sell the minority rather than the majority. Do you blame them? It isn't called "marketing" for nothing...

I know of a few pilots at Continental who were ERAU graduates, CAL interns, XJT pilots, and new hires with 0 turbine PIC at 24/25 years old. Their first turbine PIC will be at a legacy airline in a B737.

I know one guy who was drafted by the MLB right out of HS. He turned them down because he wanted to go to college and get a career outside baseball. So, yes, there are the few who grab the brass ring.

The "lie" is marketing telling these kids, "You are the one who is going to make it." And they believed it, because, after all, someone had to win, right. They just refused to accept the reality that not everyone would make it, that the industry is cyclical and that some analysts were predicting the shinking regional market for the next downturn.

Funny... all (4) of the ones I know that fall into that category just got WARN letters from CAL last week. If they get the boot their 3000TT and no TPIC probably won't help them out too much in this economy. Sure, they'll get recalled at some point, but the next year or so may suck.
