Seeing that some of us have recieved our confirmation for our PEPC. I started this to help us out filling out some of the paperwork that is required for our date with destiny. Hopefully, this will free up some other threads....

well my question isnt medical, or related to the OF306...but it does have to do with the SF-86.....

any Pubnat1 guys...i need to know IF they contact all these people, or just some of them, and if they do contact them, how do they do it (phone, mail, both)...

1. the "person who knew you" for the places ive lived.
2. the "person who knew you" for the colleges ive been to.
3. the "people who know you well."
4. Do they contact your old bosses? ive had my job for exactly 6 years, and in the year before that i had 3 jobs. do they contact just my current, or all.

thanks for the help

They send out scantron forms for them to fill out about you and mail back. It seems to vary how many they send out per applicant. I only have about 6 sent out, some have had more. There are occasions an investigator may contact someone in person or via the phone if they have some clarifying questions. Yes, they do contact employers, again which ones seems to be pretty random... as far as I know only my current employer received one.

Also, to my knowledge, none of the people listed under family were contacted in my case. So again, it seems to be random, which is probably a good thing.

ETA: Just reviewed my list and actually my current employer and most recent former employer received them.

Thanks Boomer...i just wanted to know so i can let everyone know they will be receiving something, or getting a call...

also, that took you 7 minutes. im not gonna lie, when i was writing the post i thought you would respond in under 5...your slippin..haha

This is the only thing that concerns me. There's talk of layoffs by the end of the year where I work. It may or may not hit me. But I can see some random background check guy calling my boss in early December with his questions and then a few weeks later my company trying to figure out who to lay off.

What is the extent of their contact? Do they just confirm you work there or is it more in depth. In other words, should I tell my employer that I'm looking at a job with the FAA beforehand?

This wouldn't be an issue if the FAA didn't drag things out for months and months.

Id go and talk to your boss now and say something along the lines of

"With all the talk of lay offs, I just wanted to let you know I'm EXPLORING other opportunities just in case I am layed off. I really like working here but I want to have a back up plan in place yada yada yada. You may hear something from a background investigator so I wanted to give you a heads up...."

Just one way you could go about it...

My boss received a letter which was a scantron questionnaire. It did indicate in one of the boxes 'Position Applied For - Air Traffic Control Specialist' or something to that affect.

Then it details whatever you put as far as dates / company / position. One of the questions is if that information is correct, then the rest are questions about how responsible you are, if you have issues with drugs / alcohol, I think if you're rehirable,,,, blah blah... about 8-10 questions, I only glanced at it.

I'm filling out the paperwork for a Terminal position, and noticed that I don't have an SF-86. Looks like that's for EnRoute only. I googled SF-86 to see what's on it, and there is a TON of background/reference questions.

Do Terminal guys not have to fill this form out? Is there another form that asks Terminal people to document where they've lived for the past 7 years, work history, references, etc?

Pretend you're the head of my company and you have to decide who to lay off. You have the vast majority of employees who want to stay at the company and another single employee who has casually told you he might leave in a few months. I'd say the choice is pretty clear cut against me. If I talk to my boss now, then my name moves to the top of the layoff list.

So I'm going to have to tell him at some point. I was planning on waiting until after PEPC, but with this new e-QIP account system, I wonder if I should do it sooner.

Sigh. Does the FAA realize how inefficient this process is?

I'd keep that one person so I don't have to provide any severance or unemployment claims for that person. Go ahead a layoff the planned headcount.

Knowing they'll probably be leaving in 4-6 months, that gives the department time to become for efficient and cross training to occur. Then that one employee quits, no add'l dollars out of my pocket and I reduce by one more headcount.

Win - Win :D

Piker I am in the same boat as you. They want to lay off like 1/4 of the staff here (~200 people) also I'm only a temp (but i've been here almost 3 years) so IDFK what to do.

So let me get this straight...

Both the OF-306 and the 8500 need to be filled out and brought with us to the PEPC. However, the OF-306 needs to be faxed/emailed NOW as well. CORRECT?

Is the e-QIP going to be done in replace of having to do the SF-85p or 86?

yes, send in the OF306 ASAP either fax or email.....

the e-QIP will be in place of having to do the SF-86. you used to have to do it at the PEPC, but now they are gonna let us do it before. my rep told me to bring the hard copy of the SF-86 just in case something happens and we have to spend the time filling it in again at the pepc.

Does anyone know what type of medical certificate we get at a PEPC or is the 8500-6 more of a liability document? For pilots with a current Class 1 or 2 medical- do we get it renewed or is there a specific medical for ATCS?

Cool. Thanks.

OKC told me that my airmen's 2nd class medical was not sufficient for a controllers medical. However she DID say that a controllers medical was sufficient for an airmens medical. (second class)

Seems crazy to me...Pilots and controllers both have a large responsibility. What could be on either medical that wouldn't be on the other?

so on that medical form they told us to fill out...we check airman medical certificate and 1st class medical certificate, right? Also, does anyone know who would be best to direct questions about the sf85 or sf86 to? Thanks!

The "sample" 8500 form is just for you to fill in as a template for when you enter this info into a computer at the PEPC. Just fill in everything you can answer and then ask questions there. Also I wonder why the FAA doesn't just have us use their own site: https://medxpress.faa.gov/ . It is an online version of the 8500 that they could just bring up at anytime.

When did they start letting you do it online? In CHI we had to refill out a multi carbon copy of the form and press really hard so all pages got filled out.
