Nuuk, Greenland

Apparently there is a larger security screening issue than people leaving for hunting season.

“International flights have been suspended at Nuuk, Greenland (GOH | BGGH) after Danish authorities halted international passenger screening on 26 August. The airports authority says it was informed by Danish transport authorities that “the supplementary training of staff responsible for screening international travelers does not fully meet current requirements.” Domestic flights remain unaffected.

United Airlines flight 80 was forced to turn around about half way between Newark and Nuuk on 25 August and SAS flight SK1294 has been canceled for 27 August.”

Just saw that. Looks like we left right in time especially with the new political stuff going down out there.

When I went through security it seemed pretty legit. Both myself and my GF had secondary screening of our bags so I’m curious what the issue is.

Between this, the hunting trips, and the diverts…it’s not a great look for them becoming the international tourist destination they want to be.

👀

“Denmark's foreign minister had the top U.S. diplomat in the country summoned for talks after the main national public broadcaster reported Wednesday that at least three people with connections to President Trump have been carrying out covert influence operations in Greenland.”

Wanted to make it up here during seasonal flying. Loads have been very light so I’m just not sure if it will continue next year, though I really hope it does. Not a lot to do in Nuuk, can comfortably see everything there is to see in the city in one day. Spent 6 days here doing some boat tours/expeditions. The two day “glamping” expedition and the catch and cook expedition were my favorite. The pictures don’t do it justice. It’s like another planet up there. The terrain is breathtaking. If you get a chance to do it, do it.
Awesome! I've been wanting to trek the Arctic Circle Trail and do some fly fishing out there. Definitely on the bucket list, especially after seeing what Iceland had to offer. Beautiful part of the world!
