After I read the aviation department for San Jose State had left KSJC field, I knew it would be a matter of time. The 727 that had been parked behind the schools building for well over a decade has been destroyed. Today a big dirt digger was chumping up the last of her and dumping it in a dumpster. I took these photos yesterday. Some pictures of the 727 in better times; http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?regsearch=N7015U One summer day in '96 a friend who was taking classes there showed me the inside of the 727. I remember it being hot and cramp. He said they use to hang out in the old United Airliner and study. Anyone know it's history once State took ownership?

Went over last night and let myself in and got a few shots and a little chunk of skin to remind me of all the good times.

On the plus side our new digs at RHV are coming along nicely.

fifty years of carrying precious cargo around and educating the next generations and this is what you get :(

They did more than just study inside that airplane. As they say, if the seats could talk.

It's amazing how long the thing lasted though because the last time it was actually used for something was over a decade ago.

Should have petitioned to get it tugged it down 87 and crane'd it up on the new building.

Ugh. Nasty. My school had the same rumors about their Sabreliner-that thing REEKED of mold and mildew, don't know why ANYONE would find that at all a good place for hanky panky.

This one was no different, I wouldn't be caught dead naked on the seats of that thing... gross :P

Um yes very romantic.:D I used to go in the thing from time to time but usually at night with others. You had to enter through the back stairs and it was completely pitch dark, the only thing you could see is the light from the cockpit windows in what seemed like a mile of darkness. You were just hoping there wouldn't be a homeless guy or another student at the seats trying to scare the crap out of someone, that was popular.

Ugh...Always sad to see one of those birds cut up. I wonder if we will see the new airplanes today being in service as long as these old birds have held up.

I remember being on that and going to class at the airport. I knew that someday they would kick SJSU out. The property is worth gold.

Was worth gold, not so much anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up as a long term lot.
Well where the current long term lot is, they want to build a new cargo center to attract more cargo traffic. Wouldn't be surprised if they moved the lot there. On a side note, they did just build an In n Out burger right across the street from the old SJSU Aviation campus. Now you can grab a double-double while you watch Southwest 737 after Southwest 737 land.

What a shame to see that B727 get destroyed. As far as attracting more cargo- i don't know how they can do that when you have an airport that is noise sensitive! Cargo carriers will not deal with SJC's noise curfew- they would rather go to OAK.
