Non-revving outside your airline's route structure?? Why?

Jumpseating - Always

Nonrevving - No, you're just another passenger having nothing to do with jumpseating or jumpseating etiquette.

If I'm non-revving on my own metal, the answer is still no.

If I'm jumpseating on my own metal, the answer is still yes. Unless they roll me over to the cabin under our non-rev priority.

My general rule of thumb is if I fill out a jumpseat request form or am I am outside my airlines route structure, I check with the boss.

I've been listed as a "non-rev" by mainline Delta/United agents and have not given a jumpseat request form. Same goes for AirTran back in the day.

I like the way Southwest does things. Up front or in the back, the form says to check with the captain.

Huh, that doesn't really make sense to me. Obviously filling out a jumpseat request form you would talk to the captain PERIOD whether you're up front or in the back whether your own metal or not, but if you're nonrevving with a ZED fare you're basically a "paying passenger" just paying less for a standby seat as a nonrev.

Ok, well that's definitely different if you're getting on for free using a reciprocal jumpseat agreement, but they happen to list you as a "nonrev" then yeah totally talk to the Captain.

It's really simple "Am I trying to get a ride home for free in which I did not list using my own non-rev travel benefits?" at which point "Then I must be trying to jumpseat." so "Whether I'm sitting in the front or the back, I need to talk to the Captain." Plain and simple.

Not talking about a ZED fare.

I'm talking about the times the agent simply gives you a seat without giving you paperwork for the jumpseat.

What is your companies policy for non-reving? Do you introduce yourself to the crew?
Non-revving? No I'm not gonna go introduce myself to the flight deck. Have you ever been on a Delta flight that has 75 non-revvers? I have, and I can guarantee you the guys up front don't want all 75 of them stopping by to flash the credentials.

If I have a seat in the back and one of the pilots is standing at the boarding door greeting people, I'll say hello and say thanks for the ride. Otherwise I'm going to my seat. I'd expect people to do the same on my plane.

My mom was non-revving the other day and she surely didn't go intro herself.

In my opinion this is pretty simple. Unless some airline has a policy i'm unaware of.

-Nonrev in the back, don't check in with anyone. They don't care.

-List as a jumpseater with the gate, and end up in the front or back - check in with the captain. And don't drink if you're in the back even out of uniform, you're technically still a jumpseater.

Delta's policy is very simple. You only ask the captain if you are jumpseating, ie if the pass has 01P or 02P on it. If they give you a seat in the back, even if you signed up for the jumpseat, you are considered a non-rev on a ZED 0 pass and are not required to check in up front. you do not show up on the paperwork as a JS and we have no way of knowing you are on the plane. Even though this is spelled out very clearly in our FOM, most guys have no idea what the policy actually is.

The best is when there's 50 listed for the upgrade then 50 non revs on top of that all on a 149 seat MD-88... happened to me trying to get to my friends wedding a couple weeks back DFW-ATL. It always makes me giggle.
