Non-Flying B.S.

Obviously every career and every employer are not going to be perfect. As it relates to aviation, the regionals and majors have pay and union issues, charter/frac. and corporate guys have the CEO's and deep pocketed passengers to deal with.

With that being said, in each of your own opinions, who has more non-flying B.S. to put up with: Regional and Main Line pilots or 91/135 pilots?

Just curious!

91/135 pilots.

-No schedule (if you think 4 hard days off a month is a good schedule, you're a better man than me and obviously have different priorities)
-No schedule
-No schedule
-A bad schedule when you have one
-Possibly poorly maintained equipment if you're flying for some 135 freight companies (though some have killer MX)
-Hurry up and wait life
-No schedule

I'll take the crap I've gotta deal with right now over all that. The 91/135 pax. world simply ain't for me.

As Jtrain pointed out in his post, it's all about personal priorities and can also differ between operations. I know guys that have a deep interest in staying settled in their hometown and sacrifice hard days off so their kids can go to school there. There are some fantastic 135/91 operations, and I know some that expect you to be a janitor in coveralls on days you're not called out.

All about priorities and the type of operation you work for. In my experience, the bigger the flight department, the less non-flying BS. Some corporate departments have crew scheduling and dispatchers, while others expect you to do some clerical work. NOT necessarily a bad thing if there are other parts that you heavily enjoy.

I appreciate the insight! I never had a desire to do the 121 thing, one of the big reasons is because I really did not (and still do not) have a desire to fly that HUGE metal!

However, it seems (to an outsider) that with the equipment that the regionals are carrying, pay may catch up. It also seems like a senior CAPT. at a good regional can hold a pretty descent schedule and make pretty descent money!

I guess that is one thing that is so great about this profession, the options. The who, what, when and where seem to go on forever! Not having hard days off would make life very difficult to say the least!

It probably varies.

There are good corporate outfits and BAD corporate outfits.

For every FDX, there's a Skybus.

It really all depends on what you're looking for.

If you're looking for absolute stability and control, hit medical school and buy an aircraft! :)

I like the schedule of the 121 international gig because I can group flying days in a big 10 to 12 day lump and have massive blocks of days off and literally forget how to fly an airplane.

Other folks might like the corporate gig.

Other folks might like six legs thru O'Hare all day.

Whatchya looking for? :) Every choice has it's ups and downs, but depending on your expectations, some may have more DOWNS than UPS and vice versa.
