You only need to worry if Jim Cantore is the dispatcher on the release.
Ungh.
It’s been supremely silent from people who thought this administration was a good idea. I’d love to see a cogent argument about slashing NOAA funding.
Of course they’re going for the Department of Education because its purpose is to make sure everyone is educated, not just wealthy or ‘socioeconomically fortunate’ children so we won’t see kids who think you can’t stand on the equator or that some divine entity pushes the sun around the Earth for another ten years.
But we get our asses kicked from the weather annually and if they’re going to ‘Flight Service Station” climate and weather research and reporting, I have bad news.
So It’ll be done in the style of Richie Lengel? If course they want to privatize the NOAA. It's not even a Trump move. It's a conservative move. He is just the vehicle to get it done for them. The conservatives are looking to profit off of all the government entities that they've cut. They've already been doing it with the public school system via these charter schools.
And yes...you can expect the service to be crappy.
If someone was supplying a competing forecast product that was demonstrably better, it would be a different situation. And I would be all for the "Jepp" brand TAFs and METARs to be something I could buy instead. But that's not where we are, at all.
WSI will happily sell you that data, but I doubt it's cheap.
Sounds legit, ugh. Joel Myers - WikipediaRecall that those •lords at AccuWeather have been trying to get NOAA's functions privatized for a long time.
I worry what might happen if DOGE breaks weather forecasting and climate research.
Can you break something that’s already broken? I’m not so sure.I worry what might happen if DOGE breaks weather forecasting and climate research.

Explain what at NOAA is broken in clear and unambiguous language. Can you break something that’s already broken? I’m not so sure.
Mine works great. Must be an OAL thing. The last 6 months, most of my smoothest flights have been in the yellow/orange spots of turbulence in WSI. And my roughest flights have been in areas of no turbulence colors on WSI. Ugh

Precisely. I'll check back on this thread after I go to the hardware store.Don’t hold your breath.
It's an older book but Michael Lewis' The Fifth Risk is an excellent read and talks about what Accuweather wants to do to the NWS.Recall that those •lords at AccuWeather have been trying to get NOAA's functions privatized for a long time.
