No what could go wrong with this....

That might be one of the stupidest ideas of all time. Perhaps they think it's the only way they'll be able to sell more A380s or something.

Quickly! Overengineer something that makes no financial sense!

Isn't this the sort of thing you'd find a fourth year Aeroengineer creating for a midsemester class project because he wants to play more Fallout 4 rather than do some hard math? I think you can trace most bad ideas from engineers to release dates of monumental video games.

Airbus files patents on hundreds of outrageous design concepts every year and none of them ever go to production. But they always seem to become quickie news items to fill time on the major networks, where aviation pseudo-experts get a minute or two on The Morning Edition to talk about Airbus. Isn't that convenient...

Kilo is correct. Just like "airplane returns to airport"....OMG!!! Team7Eyeball news is on it.......Terrorist....Nope. Drunk Lady or best yet, fuel panel door left open..... Big Aviation Stuff. NEWS to be sure. "they all could have died"...Huh?

I said it once when my old boss had some stupid idea that was hilariously shot down by a board meeting...

These patents, these "great ideas," are phenomenal. They're so great, that a company will patent them and lock the idea away in a safe so no one in their sane minds will attempt such a retarded design.

The press just writes about it to pass the time between [your choice of disaster here].

The Wright Brothers didn't just roll out the final version of the Flyer at Kitty Hawk. It was the result of years of experimenting and developing. No doubt they came up with many ideas that never saw the light of day. That's how R&D works. You come up with an idea. Maybe it works. Maybe it doesn't. But the failure inspires new ideas, until, eventually it does work. We remember Thomas Edison because of his 1000th attempt, not the 999 that came before.

You guys do know that companies create thousands of ideas annually and patent them.

We're thinking civilian aviation, they may be thinking quick change combi aircraft or space.
