Yea, Wes is a real cool dude. Not sure if it was true 
or not. He is a CVG native amd has always loved the local hometeam.
So I think that OH (Comair) has a special place in his heart and I think that Comair is his first choice in regionals, post college.
Still having said that, probably wasn't the nicest thing to say. May not have been Buffalopilots downfall. But he has wanted to be an airline pilot forever, so it had to be a hard decsion to walk away, even if it was the best decsion to make.
But or not, not sure if I was in the same situation I'd much like reading something like that.
Like I said Wes is a good kid. So hopefully everytone will take that into consideration (not sure how much my word pulls around here) and not beat him up too harshly for speaking out of turn in the manner in which he did.

Like I mentioned it may have been sarcasm and not that I am taking it seriously, I just think there are some things you just don't joke about. I sure the guy is a good kid so it's not something I would hold against him. Just trying to keep a positive vibe......:rawk:

Well, I must say that it really takes a man to come on here and let everyone know that they are walking away, when everyone knows that he has put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into just getting to this position and/or level. That alone earns my respect. This seems to me like a football player getting drafted in the second round, and walking away from the NFL halfway through the pre-season games. That rookie year is really a biatch, but after that.....
As said in this thread, you really have to do what makes you happy and attitude is everything. If you have a bad attitude and are miserable for an EXTENDED period of time, then there comes a time where you must take the appropriate action to find yourself again.
Life is funny like that. I heard a good saying that I try to live by: "A setback is a setup for a comeback." I wish him the best of luck.

Only 7 days off? That's just no right. No one should have to work that much for that little money.
One thing I never understood is why crew planners built schedules where some lines had 90 hours of flight time and 10 days off, and others with 75 hours of flight time and 15 days off. Work schedules should be built so as to equalize flight time and days off as much as possible, give or take a day or a couple of hours.

My question to you is how did you get only seven days off for the month? Even if on reserve you are guaranteed at least 9 days off. I've never heard anyone getting less than nine days off. Are you counting the time to commute to and from work? Also where do you reside? Buffalo, I'm assuming. Because if that is the fact, did you ever consider being JFK based? More than likely you could of held a line at JFK. Might not be the best, but a guaranteed 12 days off. Plus the commute would be a lot easier with DL/OH and JB. If you have a chance PM me.

I know he did not mean any harm. He's a great kid and I am positive he meant the sarcasm tag. But I couldnt agree more with some peoples post we are more like a 'family' here and i'm sure its like the little bro saying this in a comical way to get a laugh.
Anyways lets just wish him the best as he pursues a new path. I'm sure you will have things work out Buffalo and the best will happen.

Reserve gives a min days off of 11, 7 hard days and 4 soft, you cant go home on the soft days because they may call you to fly. So technically, you have 7 off as far as i am concerned. Pilots on reserve now are getting 1 out and back in 6 days, that stinks. Commuting ruined the job amongst other things. I will give a full story of my path later today.

sometimes we have to take one step down the ladder in order to keep climbing it. I'm sure this gonna be for the best. First of all, good luck in the future.
Buffalopilot, what you did really hurt the industry. When airlines have pilots trained on their dime and then you leave after a few months, that hurts the rest of us.
There is a reason Doug founded this website, to keep pilots informed. You knew going in that the first year sucks and regional airlines aren't that great. There's training, reserve, commuting, etc. You chose to apply at Comair and then commute. Of course commuting sucks. Have you heard one pilot here that likes commuting.
You just hurt the profession and gave management one more reason to offer crappy pay and treat pilots the way they do.
Man up. You signed on for the job so you could have at least stuck it out for a year.

He does not owe anything to the company. If he signed a one year contract then I would agree with you but he did not. He tried something out and realized it was not for him. Why keep on doing something that is not working. What if his family life was going down the drain and staying with the company might lead to a divorce? Is it family first or work first?
Stuckingfk, that was the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard. He brought down the industry because he realized the job sucked.... Are you kidding me? I am not attacking you, but seriously. He doesn't owe Comair anything. Bringing down the industry is flying for free, PFT, etc. Quitting a dumpy job is voting with your feet. He realized it wasn’t for him and left. Maybe if more people were willing to do it, things wouldn't be like this. Keep this in mind. You can research stuff all day long, but doing it is something completely different. Give the guy a break.

Thanks for posting this - I don't think there's enough discussion on this board sometimes about the reasons why pilots are leaving the regionals in droves. Hopefully some folks on here will see the writing on the wall and avoid a situation like yours. Best of luck!
