No furloughs at Pinnacle?

I'm out the door as soon as classes start back a certain airline. The way things are going, I may just say "F it" and get a job locally until then. Slash my pay, my benefits and I still have to commute and pay for a crash pad? Well, after all that, I might as well just work somewhere here and be home every day.....

I'm not a pilot at 9E, but all of us at PinnPro got the notice Monday afternoon that we're being canned and replaced. In my case (but not the case for many of my co-workers), it was only a small side job to get flight benefits and some extra cash, while working as a full-time CFI in the SE Michigan area. I feel really bad for the guys there who worked 50+ hours a week and it is they're only job. One can only hope RE, or whoever takes over, retains our current employees.

Minibottle party in your breakroom?

Well, as I was saying, I don't think furloughs are going to happen.

From my understanding, they canceled the voluntary furloughs and now are only going to have 7 involuntary furloughs. Issue is, a lot of those that took the voluntary furloughs, have already found better jobs. The company doesn't understand this when they announced a reduction to 7 voluntary furloughs. Furthermore they are offering premium pay as they are short staffed.

Finally, heard that once the Chapter 11 process if finalized, they are going to move HQ back to MSP and change everything back to the Mesaba name.

I think you mis-read the memo:
The following attachment contains an amendment to reduction notice 12-01.

Due to attrition that is higher than expected, we are canceling most of the involuntary furloughs that were forecast for July 1, 2012.

Unfortunately, we are still planning on a furlough of the seven most junior pilots, but we do not anticipate the need to furlough again until this fall.

When we originally announced these reductions, I estimated the need to furlough approximately 450 pilots. At this time, we are revising our forecast and believe
that there will eventually be a need to furlough approximately 350 pilots.

Please keep in mind these numbers and dates listed above can change depending on our future attrition rate and the actual block hours received from Delta.

If you look at the amendment to reduction notice 12-01 they still have all of the voluntary furloughs and their effective dates. It looks like they will still be furloughing some, but not a lot that's for sure.

They rescinded the involuntary furloughs except 7, but the voluntary furloughs are still leaving. Also reduced the total number of furloughs to 350 from 450.

Seggy,

You're right about HQ moving back to MSP. They have already come out and said that all training will eventually be done at PanAm in Eagan and given the fact that 90% of the new senior management lives in the MSP area I am guessing that the wheels will be in motion for the move to begin within a year and complete within 2-3 years.

That would take money, which we don't have. The 12ish mile move from nonconnah to downtown was $30M. Nobody was forced to move (but offers for the MSP folks involved). If they moved HQ to MSP they would NOT have any support staff (SOC- MOC/Sched) to run the operation. That would be the last move nailing the coffin to the senior mgmt cadre. If an employee is living in MEM, while in a primary support position, they aren't here for the money, they live here. The spool up time is too great for the paycheck. ESPECIALLY coming from MEM.

I have asked schedulers, dispatchers, and MOC folks if they would move and was told "Nope, I'll go to purple" repeatedly. It's unscientific, but I have not heard a single person willing to move, inclusive of Sups.

Maybe in time, but in BK, there is no allure for folks to go from MEM to MSP to support the operation and there is no money to offset the supply-demand curve.

*yes, I know you said ONCE ch. 11 is done, but you still have folks that won't leave.

There is a much better qualified work force in MSP than MEM. Obviously, a lot of former NWA people are still in the MSP area and that coupled with tax breaks from MN would offset the costs to move and retrain people.

Yes!!!!!

I'm done with MEM

I'll go dispatch in MSP. I wouldn't touch MEM with a 10' pole. Speaking of dispatching does anyone know if they're still hiring?

Anyone who has been to the MSP training facility should be pissed that they even moved any training and HQs down to Memphis.

The only reason why they chose MEM as their new "brain base" was to show that PCL bought MSA, and not the other way around. Pure ego move by Phil.

As for people in MEM not wanting to move to MSP, good riddance. This is especially true for all of those half-bred Colgan workers who came over from Manassas.

I haven't worked with any former Colganites in scheduling etc that I know of but I do know 9E has some real winners down there.

Question, so if they are not going to furlough as many as they thought but the Saab and Q flying is still going away, are the junior Colgan FO's going to get a class date for the RJ? Seems like a total waist if they are still going to furlough 350. Or will they just be paid min guarantee on the 9L side once they are displaced? Something does not add up to me here.

My understanding is that many of them simply have already left.

The training dates have been posted in the 12-02 award though. Check the company website.

The 450 to 350 number is smoke and mirrors.

They still need to furlough 450, but 100 of the people they were going to furlough already quit.
