NJC East Coast

I'm in DC most weekends because my girlfriend lives there, so even though I live in PHX a NJC there would be really cool. I could also do BOS fairly easily as well.

I know to get out to IAD you can take the metro out to almost the end of the orange line to West Falls Church. You can grab a Washington Flyer shuttle from there for I think about $9 to IAD. I'm pretty sure they run twice an hour.

Seggy's idea is pretty sweet. I spend most of my summer's at the Jersey shore. Always a good time!

but how do we go about getting out to the museum at IAD cuz i know IAD airport does NOT have train service.

I believe that there is a bus that runs from the main air and space museum to the one at dulles. Not sure how often or how expensive (if at all) but I'm fairly sure it exists.

Also, if you fly into BWI, there's a bus that takes you to the Metro station. I think it was like $8 for an all day pass or something. We used to fly MCO-BWI to hit the Air and Space Museum for a day, and it was less than $10 for public transportation. DCA would be EASY since it's almost in the middle of everything anyway. Pretty sure there's a bus that runs b/w the Air and Space Museum and the Annex at IAD, but I don't know the $$$ on that.

err...scratch that. Just researched it on the website and found this

"National Air and Space Museum Express Shuttle Bus

NOTICE: NASM Express Shuttle Bus Service Ends September 5, 2006
As of September 5, 2006, the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum will no longer offer shuttle service between its National Mall building and the Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va. Because most visitors to the Virginia facility drive or choose other forms of transportation, such as the existing bus service from Dulles Airport to the Center, the Museum will continue to provide information on transit and parking options. Visit the Museum's web site or call 202-633-1000 for details and directions. "

That's great, but what about "existing service" from the NASM to Dulles? :)

It hurts to say being from Brooklyn, but NYC really wouldn't be a good choice for an NJC IMO. Granted transportation is real easy and the things to do list is huge, but finding a place to stay for a reasonable price is damn near impossible. Nightlife is quite a bit expensive as well, particularly in Manhattan. Not saying that Vegas is dirt cheap by any means, but as a whole I think it would be cheaper than NY. On the other hand, I've got a big kitchen area that can fit several cots/sleeping bags of guests... :)

As a New Yorker, I would love to do a J/C event in New York ( I could stay at my sister's place & save a hotel room), but, I agree, New York would not ba a good choice.....

Plus, the price for a hotel room would make weaker people pass out....

If we do it in Miami, hotel rooms are cheaper & we can get Simulator Time at Alteon.....

I dunno why ya'll are even discussing this, Chicago is easily the coolest city in the world AND it's easy to get to.

but is it easy to get out of? hahahha

That's always questionable, at least on HP/US! I know a girl who got stuck for an entire day last week. She tried to get on our 5AM flight ORD-PHX, and it was oversold by about 20.

Chicago seriously rocks :nana2: Plus, I can drive there...

Also - thought about the Jersey shore - it's NOVEMBER! Not exactly beach weather!

I'd say chicago would totally be the most awesome place in the whole world to do a NJC for all the reasons FlyChicaga said. :yeahthat:

I'm a newbie but would love to attend a NJC. My vote, DC! I lived there for 2 years right near DCA. Lot's of hotel options and most are priced reasonably. Easy to cab it or metro it. Lots to do near DCA, heck the Capital is only 10 mins away. Lots of great restaurants and bars for night life. If you need any specifics on hotels, etc... feel free to PM me and I can get you more info! :nana2:

ummm... one thing you forgot to take into account girlie is that we're not doing this in november ;)... if anything, i'd be half way between the year.. mid-spring, late spring.. before all the kids get out of school and start going on vacation!

oh crap.. that brings up another problem - spring break...

which brings up another good hting bout chitown...most of the breakers are going south right? do any go to the jersey shore?

how would we even get out to jersey? never been there, have no idea how far it is from airport and/or train stations...

misread your first post - i thought you said you wanted to do the east coast NJC this weekend into or on the way out of switzerland...

uh.. yea... like that's gonna happen!! haha

Doug and I are going to talk about sponsoring an NJC on the east coast on our way to/from switzerland this weekend.
I think you missed one or two tiny little words.. hahahha (your so funny....I can totally tell you were skimming)

if there were 2 kristie & doug taylors... we'd be able to do it...but no, we're going to *talk* about it on the way overseas...and it looks like we'll be sitting in coach this trip :( so we'll need something to keep our minds off of all those people having fun in biz elite! :)
