Nexus 7

No Foreflight on Android devices, but you can use Gamin Pilot. I've used it (Nexus 7 and Garmin Pilot), and it's quite nice. The Nexus 7 is the perfect size for cockpit use (approach plate size). The nice thing about it is it's relatively cheap, has a gps hardware built in (wifi only iPads need an additional device for gps location stuff), and Garmin Pilot is cheaper than Foreflight. The only thing I wish Garmin Pilot had (and maybe it does) is the touch capability for measuring distances between two points on the sectional map.

I can't justify spending 500+ on an iPad with GPS when you can spend 200-250 on the Nexus 7 and $50/yr for the basic Gamin Pilot service.

I've played around with Avilution on a Nexus 10. Works pretty well minus the GPS not holding up at the speeds the jet goes. A bluetooth GPS fixes that problem. The only issue is the approach plates are NOS (used to Jepps now) and not geo referenced.

Interesting...have you tried an ipad that has a built in gps, and does it keep up with the speed of the jet without needing an external gps?

I don't have an ipad, but I had an American Airlines jumpseater the other day who had a company issued one (with foreflight which they provide and Garmin Pilot which he purchased) and in both apps the on board GPS did not provide a fix. He did have a bluetooth GPS that, once we moved it to the glareshield, worked like a champ.

If you have to get an external gps for complete reliability anyway maybe it is worth the extra cost over the nexus 7 for an ipad...I should say garmin piIot on the nexus 7 was reliable for me for slow trainers under around 6000'. I do like foreflight more than garmin pilot or any other app I've tried.

Jepp has an app for android now FYI.

Anyone using the Nexus 7 in the cockpit? How does it handle Foreflight?
No foreflight on android.

I use the fltplan.com app since it is free and you still can get all your charts and such. The interface still needs some improving and does have a GPS location on the sectionals but that isn't an issue since it is all free.

It may just be the freight dog in me, but I don't know why anyone needs a gps with these apps.

Thanks for the feed back. Since I need money to burn literally (LL). I've decided to go with the Nexus 7 32gb $249 which is 1/2 the cost of Ipad and the free trial of Garmin, sample Jepp, and Avilution. I will be under 10,000' and around 95-120knts for a while so those should work for me.
I do appreciate the input.
