I realize it's not an "AH HA" moment when you link these together, but it is a plausible scenario when you consider the history of the Airbus fleet...
American 587
Airbus A300
Vertical Fin separation leading to loss of control
Air Transat 961
Airbus A310
Air France 447
Airbus A330
I'm hardly the first person to propose this scenario, BUT to me it seems so far the most plausible scenario, the messages of fluctuations in airspeed could be the result of an out of control aircraft, at least I haven't read anywhere that it couldn't be.
It seems an interesting coincidence at least that the vertical fin appears to have snapped nearly clean off the fuselage, with the exception of a small piece of rudder (broke off before the vertical fin snapped?)
The BEA has said wreckage suggests the aircraft landed "on it's belly" and I've read in other news reports quoting them as saying they landed with little forward momentum... I apologize I can't quote this, it's been a couple of years, and may be incorrect... assume for a moment that this is the case...

Reports are that AAL587 landed in a similar fashion...
I know this is all a stretch, but in my limited education on aircraft accidents it seems a plausible scenario at least...
