New type of commercial pilot jobs...

Had one that used to fly out of KAVQ, when it was E14, around '96. The FBO was flying to E60 for some maintenance, I just happen to be there for a lesson and my instructor asked if I wanted to go along. All the secret squirrel stuff was removed ahead of time so it just looked like a normal 182.

I gave a BFR to one of their pilots years ago, he had something like 18000hrs in 182s over the course of 20 years. According to him they have retention issues because the flying is so mindnumbingly boring.

They're not hard to discern on the ramp. Brand spankin' new 182s/206s and two dudes hop out wearing cargo pants and jump boots with tacticool ridiculous hawaiian shirts on to "conceal" the fact that they're carrying. Seen them at maybe 4 different airports around the country in the past year alone

We had an office in the hangar next to the flight school I went to. You could always tell who was on binocular duty as he was green and had a sick sack with him

The part that is relatively new is the ability to mimic a cell tower. In some cases, law enforcement has been accused of doing this without a warrant to generate leads that then lead to warrant causes.

Methinks I've seen one of these in action. When I was surveying in Columbus I saw a 182 take off at sunset (didn't have the ball camera hanging off like others I'd seen) and spend the next 3-4 hours circling over southwest Columbus. I went to a beer garden with my friends that night, and saw it still circling hours later. What else could they be doing without an IR/Thermal sensor on board?

Holding practice. Turns around a point.

The one I saw flew two planes a newish 206 with all sorts of cameras and an older highway patrol 180 that looked like a porcupine with so many antennas on it. It was out of KDVT
