New Regional Starting Up in '07

I'm reasonably certain that NWALPA will STFD if Northwest tries to outsource their jobs to NewCo. They very much regret ever allowing the company to outsource any jet routes in the first place; I don't think they're going to make the same mistake again.

Management can get away with that now because there is a reward in the end and the pilots are still "paying their dues", but when too many of these majors cut costs by going regional and replacing high payed pilots for low payed pilots, the regional guys will have nothing to look forward to, and strikes will begin.

Payed?

There really isn't anything for a regional pilot to look forward to NOW. Seriously, where are you going to go? The 500 slots at CAL? Southwest has slowed hiring. JetBlue is about to leave their sheltered cove and enter the real world, so tough times are afloat there. AirTran, UPS, FedEx, World, Gemini, Omni ... sure they're hiring, but enough to cover 40,000 regional pilots dreaming of that mainline job? I've been saying it for a long time ... there IS nothing to look forward to NOW. Oh, that's right, United will be hiring pilots this year ... because their own aren't coming back. That speaks volumes right there!

I hope NW's pilots shut the place down. This crap has to stop somewhere. Blaming everything on Southwest and jetBlue is *********. How about the fact that Management is cramming their frequent flyers into uncomfortable, non-serviced RJs? Yeah, I'll fly Southwest instead of an RJ. How about the 4-hour flight in an RJ with no entertainment? Yeah, I'll fly Frontier instead of an RJ. How about walking through the rain, sleet, snow, JetA, engine and APU exhaust, and deicing fluid to get to my aircraft? You bet your a$$ these people will choose a different carrier next time, someone who doesn't operate RJs. Passengers are not all the mindless sheep that the bean counters believe.

"time for a beer... I don't care if it is lunch time"

You know the old saying, it's beer drinkin' time somewhere...

What the article fails to mention is that NWALPA has promised to strike and shut the Company down if NW tries to implement the "NewCo." plan.

Still believe NW is actually bankrupt? ;)

Are we talking morally or financially?

Morals?

Morals are something that the remants of the middle class and the growing lower class still have problems with disregarding...

Example:
Delta 4148 Salt Lake City (SLC) 8:20am Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) 11:50am CR7 2.30 988

Why an RJ for that big of trip?

I tried to book a couple of tickets out of SGU thru SLC to DFW couldn't get it. The flight was full, easy to book when your flying RJ from Salt Lake to Dallas. Ended up going AA out of LAS

I was just frustrated thats all

Oh hell, they were flying a CRJ-700 from JFK to DFW and couldn't figure out that people didn't want to step off a 777 after 10 hour flight from FRA to hop on a CRJ-700 (blocked for 52 seats because of winds and fuel) for four hours to fly to DFW.

Bonuses all 'round, they said. Marketing brilliance.

Wow that example and the other bout the CRJ from SLC-DFW are just plain stupid.
I thought DL was cutting back on RJ service (part of their restructuring plans.) After all I don't see many RJ's on the DL side here in PHX anymore they all typically were doing the PHX-SLC/SLC-PHX thing. Now as you know that flying is mainline again with MD-90's.

I think I know abot jetBlue, but please clarify this for me? I too think they might be shaky here shortly....
