New Reduced Rest at Colgan?

Well, I'm not proclaiming that this place is better - yet. Keeping in mind that everyone drinks some kool-aid the first couple of months. But - so far - the training has been more organized and better put together then Colgan. Including the accomodations and what you are paid while here. The training materials and Company manuals are much better as well. Studying is a lot easier thanks to the organization.

I just got the Jungle jet FMS book today. Ouch. :banghead:

I think I miss the Beech already. :D

Here's how the PCL scope clause in the contract reads: "Any flying done by Pinnacle Airlines, Inc or A COMPANY IN POSSESSION OF PINNACLE AIRLINES, INC must be done by pilots on the Pinnacle Airlines, Inc seniority list." Well, Pinnacle Holdings is "in poseesion of Pinnacle Airlines, Inc" and Colgan does flying for them. Guess what? By our scope clause, that flying has to be done by pilots on the Pinnacle Airlines, Inc seniority list. That's how I read it, and that's evidentally how the ALPA lawyers read it, too.

Now, you'll hear some guys screaming "Staple 'em!," especially after the failed union drive. In fact, part of the argument for the union was in case we won the scope grievance, there would be a seniority list integration precedent. Without both being ALPA carriers, you're (at best) at the mercy of an arbitrator. My personal feeling is we integrate the list with fences so BOTH pilot groups get to keep their growth and upgrades going. Our scope clause gets honored, the company loses you guys as a whipsaw tool, and you suddenly get the benefit of an ALPA negotiated contract. Well, not YOU, Airdale. :)

The frequent flyers and VIPs of Raleigh, and other cities across the country, most certainly do fly on RJs and into EWR.

Maybe the "midlevel" VIPs.
NetJets is running 70+ Gulfstreams, 50+ Falcons, and a pair of BBJs (not to mention the G200/Ce750s). The upper level VIPs would more likely fly direct from RDU(etc)-Europe. No reason to connect in EWR/TEB.

It is certainly no argument that CEOs and people equally as high up on the company totem pole can fly on a corporate jet instead of airlining-it. I was just referring to people who fly a lot for the company but aren't necessarily top executives. If I was a CEO of a fortune 100 company, I would not been seen waiting out some groundstop at an outstation!

Question for ya: In talking to someone who had a class date at NetJets, he was mentioning some things about training and flying there and said that a blackberry is issued to each pilot when they start there. I am curious: did the recent blackberry outage have much, if any, effect on the NJA operation? I don't know how they are used, if it's more for convenience or if they play a very important part of daily operations.

Blackberries are issued to all pilots when hired. We are told that NJA's applications/software are more integrated than almost anyone else. The BBs are directly linked and fully interactive with the company's main system. They "can" be used legally for dispatch. We receive our daily itineraries on them as well as our flight plans and performance calculations. Most of us choose to have them printed at the origination airports (hit 1 button and the system sends a full printout where you are.....the system knows your location and all phone numbers associated).

That said. No, it didn't have much of an effect. There are still ways to do it manually or semi-manually.....phones and faxes.
