New GI Bill and Flight Training

ASU didn't lose its accreditation. They have become non-VA compliant. VA is changing the rules and making it pretty hard for schools to comply. So every semester it's a fight to get the VA approve veteran flying. But it's going on right now.

Rgr. I just knew he had to switch.

The flyin Hawaiian. That's the one.

Small world. Well there was the talk that ASU could shut it down for VA guys and he didn't want any delays. As of now we got summer approved but no idea if Fall is guaranteed. That's why every semester is a fight and there are delays. He was like Ef this I'm outta here [emoji13]

Yeah I tried to talk him into KSU. I'm starting this fall. He was a little worried about the night life. Lol. Apparently they were just recently revetted with the VA so hopefully I don't run into the same issues.

Yeah you want to get in and get out in about three years and no distractions. KSU has a good program and I looked into it but had a place in Phoenix already so ended up here. Good luck with training ...

Currently using the 9/11 GI Bill for part 141 at UND at the Phoenix location. Did the abbreviated Private Pilot course since I had my PPL from 2009 (part 61). Just took my Final stage check this morning and now waiting to start Instruments in August. If anyone has questions, feel free to ask me.

Did the VA pay for the abbreviated course? As far as I know they are not paying the PPL nowadays.

Sure did. When I enrolled I had no idea about the VA cutting off funding for Private after the Summer Semester (for me, it was pure luck/perfect timing). Starting in August (this upcoming Fall Semester) the VA will not be paying for Private.

Good luck man. I'm glad I got it done across the street before it was chopped like that.

Seems like they are making the rules up as they go along. At this rate, I don't know if these benefits will be around when I get to point that I can actually cash them in and use them.

They are trying to cut spending. Thanks to Brad Wenstrup R-OH ... Who else but a republican would propose to cut veteran benefits? Meanwhile VA would spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to move their executives and spend millions on artwork in clinics!!!

I'm not one to talk about politics, but looks like you may have spent some time at Shaw. I was there from 04-08.

Nope. Was just a big 78th enthusiast. Wanted to fly the viper but ended up in the Army flying Longbows. I hear it was also politics that chopped the Bushmasters instead of 55th. Thanks for your service man. Hurry up and get to school before they really cut all the benefits.

I sent you a pm..

Currently about 5 months out from my bachelors through Embry-Riddle's Worldwide program, I plan on using the remainder of the time on my GI bill toward flight training however that is possible. Most people are saying that you need to be in a joint degree/pilot training program, but is it possible to use the GI bill for strictly flight training since I will already have my bachelors in aerospace science? I will have about 20 months remaining on the post-9/11 GI bill and would prefer an expedited training program such as ATP. TIA

If you use the GI Bill only for flight training, you'll be capped at 10K a semester. And a minimum of Private Pilot's License is required. VA's website has the info on this.

Hi all I have a couple of questions as I have gotten mixed answers between flying schools and the VA. To make a long story short I only have multi commercial and MEI to go. I already have a private multi and single commercial. I currently have 4 months of post 9/11 gi bill left. My question is if I use this at a part 141 VA approved school how will they charge the entitlement? For example will they divide the yearly maximum amount by my four remaining months and essentially only pay out 4500 dollars towards the ratings? Or, as some seem to say at the flight school, will they reimburse the full yearly amount as long as I do all of the flying in four months or less? I seem to believe that they will pro rate it but when I called the GI Bill hotline they could not give me an answer. Thinking that they will pay the full yearly amount towards the training as long as I finish in the 4 months or less seems a little to good to be true. Just curious what anyones else's experiences have been. Thanks for calls help in advance.

I have only done a college 141 program so your best bet would be to call the 141 school and they'll tell you how they deduce the benefits. But sounds like you don't want a college program but just a 141 school?
