New "controller" at KJFK Tower...

This is very reminiscent of a trip I did last May, near Detroit or Lansing (can't recall), and a kid of about the same age as this one was doing all the calls for the plane he was in. This kid was responding way too promptly to the controller's requests for anyone to be "briefing" him.

As absolutely cool as that is I would have a hard time accepting a takeoff clearance in JFK from the kid. It would have to be very VFR at a minimum.

Where I operate out of now it wouldn't be as big of a deal because we're pretty much aware of 95% of the traffic anyway with our avionics.

All that said, Epic Win for the kid indeed.

This is awesome. It really made me happy to hear this.

It is sad that if the media found out about this it would probably be on national television within 10 minutes and they would cry for the controller to be fired.

Yeah, that would be bad. Doug, is there a way to hide individual threads from non-members? If there is, this might be one to consider.

Yes, it's call the Lav. You have to be a member to enter, and it isn't (or wasn't) indexed for search engines. Maybe it should be pushed there.

Do controllers not have their own version of "sterile cockpit"....does anybody else not see the safety risks here having kids running around a control tower???

It's cute...but come on!

Way too late to bother. Google indexed it a long time ago, not to mention the original thread on LiveATC.net that started the whole thing.
