New CFI vs. Old CFI

[ QUOTE ]
hey, with a good tailwind..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I was pushing 130-135 knots groundspeed in a 152 going to my ppl checkride. I'm not kidding, either.

"I really like John, we're close in age"

and you just turned 16?

I'd say you should fly with whichever CFI teaches you better, not whichever one is closer to your age...especially if you are 16....

If I remember correctly... one should rotate at 50 kts, climb at Vy of 67 kts until reaching a safe altitude (approx. 500-1000 ft AGL), then continue climbing at a CRUISE CLIMB airspeed of 80 kts until reaching the desired cruising altitude in a 152... (the speeds in the 152 are approx. 5 kts slower than those used in a 172) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bandit.gif

Not getting on the schedule sucks, if you like the new guy (which it seems you do) I would fly with him. It seems to me he flies slightly different then your other instructor, which is making you feel uncomfortable. After another hour you will and him will be singing from the same page, and doing great. Flying with different people is great experience - I feel sorry for the people who have the same instructor, and on their checkride they notice a different face. Flying with multiple people is great experience for you!

You are paying to learn to fly, not to make a new friend...

Fly with the CFI whom you feel is giving you the best value for your money...

So true, Don't pick a CFI to make a new friend, that will just come. Pick a CFI for their ability to teach you about flying. Don't be afraid to switch CFI's either, I did it once and it was the best thing EVER!

From what you said, me personally I would choose Mike. It seems like you are finding things in him that you like, which is good, But also his schedule is more free. Having a CFI at your disposal, makes flight training so much better, now only if it can be like that with the Planes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
