New ATP Instructor/Hiring Status Link

Hey Naval FE man...you know you quote it too!

If you are referring to me, you are sorely mistaken. I'm not an FE, I'm a Warfare Systems Operator. You can tell the difference....one has a grease pencil in his flight suit pocket and smells like JP, the other one has all the chicks' phone numbers in his flight suit pocket and smells like an Irish Spring.

Nah, seriously, FE's work hard in the P-3 world. There are no FE's in S-3's. I did know a guy (who also flew back left in the S-3, also had his Commercial Multi) who married the daughter of a corporate flight dept.'s chief pilot. The chief pilot asked him if he could see the engine instruments from where he was sitting....he answered in the affirmative. The father-in-law said, "Hell, we'll just count that backseat time as FE time!" and hired him! He probably had less than 500 hours as a pilot, but 2000 hours "Special Crew Time"....

Ahhhhh...quoting Top Gun. The last bastion of the aviation geek.

Maybe, but it's the perfect response when somebody's clearly missed the point.

My sincerest apologies...I don't think in our previous debate we ever learned your actual title...so I do apologize.

I really have nothing witty to say but......Oh YEAH! I used to pick up chicks all the time, but most of them were really boring. I mean, like, none of them would know anything about the T56 engine, or the sweet intricacies of the runaround relays, so I dumped them!, what else are you supposed to do with women?

We used to spend the whole flight talking about getting on the ground, drinking lots of beer and picking up women. But when we got on the ground and started drinking, the whole crew would end up sitting at a big table tallking about flying.

I was waiting for you to peep up there, EODFE...

I have max respect for FE's in the Navy...hard working folk. Everyone knows they work hard...that's why you guys get the rack w/o arguement!

I've been away for awhile. I'm studying for my PPL. Today I was supposed to finish up my practice time but the weather sucks. Hopefully tomorrow it will clear up and I'm scheduled for my checkride Saturday morning. I feel pretty confident, as long as I don't get "white coat" syndorme and just totally lock up, I think it will go ok. I really want to take my kid up and put him in the right seat and see what he thinks. I also can't wait to start instrument.

Hey. I don't want to be a downer, but I would sure go up a few times on your own after you have your license before taking loved ones up... It's really diff. the first few times up with your PPL. Helps get the nervousness factor taken care of. Just a thought.

Let us sing " I'm a private pilot, private pilot, private pilot"!
I passed my checkride without giving the DE a heart attack and just giving myself a little one.

Thanks for the posts! SIg, my FE training helped mostly in the WT an Balance and aerodynamics areas. Since I didn't have to learn why an airplane flys from the start, it made it a lot easier. Also, I used to listen to all the radio calls so I had a rudimentry understanding of radio procedures. Now that I'm going into instrument training, I wish I would have paid more attention to what the Pilots were doing during approaches. Mostly I'd sit back and harrase the pilots about their landings.
