New Airplane for ATN

If you're looking at a Baron, you could consider a PA31 as well. Might not be quite as fast, but you'll be able to take more people with you that way. Not sure what kind of PA31 you'll get for around $150K though

It's way easier for zero engine flight in a machine made for such. You know that.

And @ATN_Pilot pilot has more experience than the average little twin buyer. I'm sure he can manage driving it around on one once he gets a checkout and some single pilot time. We all know that engine only buys some time, but that opens way more options.
I have lots of dead stick time in airplanes with similar glide performance to low performance gliders. It isn't actually all that different.

Statistics are on my side that the single is safer.

A Twinkie with the Robertson STOL and tips is hard to beat.

Plus 1 on the Twin Comanche. The ones with the STOL kits are getting harder to find though the later models were counter-rotating (PA 39) and you can find turbo charged as well. 150 kts at 14-15 gph is pretty good for a little twin. As far as money goes, you might consider a partnership. Cost benefit of a lease back without the abuse if you choose your partners wisely.

I have not been personally sued and none of my leaseback endeavors have been in a accident. I have been very close to people that have gone through this though. A friend of mine had a leaseback that that was involved in a fatal and that ended up in lawsuits for negligence, but he never had to really lift a finger. The insurance company has lawyers that deal with it and his personal assets were never at risk. He owns many leasebacks and never had issues with being personally sued. Of course, his premiums went through the roof so he paid in the long run.

My friend's insurance ended up covering it as well, but I know the two years or so he had to deal with it were incredibly taxing on his health.

Seriously though. If your budget is 150k, find an airplane for 75k and use the other 75 to maintain and fly it. The cheapest part of owning an airplane is buying it. You'll spend the purchase price in fuel alone in no time. If you're really stuck on a twin, the only two I'd own would be a twin Comanche or an Aerostar. The Aerostar will eat you in mx but it's a fast sexy airplane. You can outrun a king air 90. Both should be available in the 100k range with a six pack and a panel mounted garmin with mid to low time engines.

Also it's cheaper to buy an airplane with everything you want already in it. There's not a single modification you can do that you will get back in the selling price. I'm sure you understand this as it's the same with cars/motorcycles.

Anyone want a partially-completed emp kit and tools? ;9

Rent's due. >.>

For the price of rent? Maybe. I do have a lot of time on my hands all of the sudden. I wonder if the company would mind if I staked out a piece of the hangar.
