Network, Network...for the love of God, NETWORK!

Here's the deal. Try to make new friends first, but then also think about trying to form actual connections. I drug those two poor guys throughout HQ trying to run into people that I know so I could at least introduce them and try to get their name out and trying to get some hands shaken for them.

I'm not only showcasing my airline, I'm also (hopefully) motivating them to do a little something, every day, to get to where they want to go.

Like when I took them to the "Fourth Floor", it wasn't to beg for a job, it was to show them basically our "flight operations administrative level" and how they're human just like everyone else and it's not like walking into some WW2 command center. Just regular guys that stop in the hallway to ask how you're doing and say "Man, how long has it been? What are you doing at the school house today?".

I aimed for any introductions to be like "Here are a couple of my good friends that are in town having a tour, and then, at the end of the narrative, we need to get these guys on our team."

Naturally, since I'm supposed a "jack wagon" on the other site (which is fine, I think it's hilarious in a macabre way), I wouldn't be a real friend if I didn't do stuff like this. How in the world would we create a community based upon human interaction and networking if I didn't take the opportunity to do these things.

You're supposed to.

And yes, many people at HQ lurk the website.

I think its also important to see that its not just an aviation website. Derg and K drove out from the comforts of Taylor Castle in Scottsdale to Vegas to see my band play last year. Totally impromptu M&G and there was nothing like seeing Derg mixing it up in the pit and screaming into the mic with me and the others at the show. Although I had the flu that evening and Im surprised Derg didn't catch anything from sharing the mic, it put a smile on my face for sure and made me realize the true value of this website. If I had my TTs within the realm of Southern Jet minimums, Id certainly have the comfort knowing, I could make something happen.

The others can spout out liberal nerd fest or whatever other negative garbage they want but many of us have been consistent members here for a long time. There is a very good reason for that.

Nah, it has it's place and I don't worry about it.

I just want JC to be the place that I wish I had when I was trying to get forward in my career. Some are going to wipe their butt on it, which is natural, but others are going to "clue in" and propel themselves.

I'm very jealous of you! Did you wear your bow tie to the offices of Virginia Avenue @SurferLucas?
nope, it was a casual day...plus too hot for a tie, no sense in having a nasty neck line ;)

Besides, I save those social functions now...it's the black tie at work

He was very polite and well-behaved. Didn't once go running down the hallway after any IFS new hires at all.

Color me impressed. :)
NO! No no no no no no no...(if I keep saying it, maybe it'll happen?)

It's working as envisioned.

I caught a good break directly via JC and I've been trying like hell to pay it forward ever since.

Good job, Derg. Hope to have a bevvie or two with you one of these days.

Will

+1 for JC being one of the best pro aviation forums around and for the value of networking and being open and kind to new acquaintances (not just aviation-related ones) . . . not only will you have kind behavior directed at you in return but you never know who will help you in making your dreams happen . . . damn, that sounded really cheesy but what the heck ;)
