need help on choosing airplane for ppl

Hey everyone
This is my first post in this forum
I didn't know where to post my thread
but I guess this is the one that most people take a look at
so i decided to post it here
I have a dliemma with choosing an airplane for my ppl.
My local FBO costs $119 for cessna 152 1978model
$134 for eclipse da-20 2004 model
$135 for cessna 172 1983 model
$97 for J3Cub 1941 model
$112 for citabria 1974 model
I want to get trained in eclipse but it is so damn expensive and for cessna 152 i guess it is still expensive for an old model of 152.
Should I get trained in J3Cub even though it is for a sport flight?
Would I get a same training in J3Cub as I were trained in cessna?
Since J3Cub is old, I assume that it lacks new technologies.
does it matter at all??

by the way I live in orange count, socal
so everything is expensive here :mad:
anyways
any help would be much appreciated
also, if you have any experience with sunrise aviation in SNA
please let me know

Holy crap! That's a lot for a 152! Do those rates include an instructor? My advice is to train in the least expensive one.

The cub can be used for a private rating. They're very safe planes (how do you think they got to be so old) and a lot of fun to fly. Being that the citabria is only slightly more, it may be worthwhile just so you get used to using radios and nav aids as well - plus it's one of my favorite aircraft to fly, truely a joy.

Maybe find a different FBO... A DA-20 for 135/hr is ludicrous, (4 gal/hr = 20$/hr) but if you must, I would suggest a 172... I think you would learn more in that over the 152. Isn't there an ATP campus somewhere around SNA?
 
Find a new flight school dude - this place is going to leave you broke in no time flat.

Hell, why don't you travel somewhere else and do one of those two-week private pilot things. With the money you save you could justify the travel/lodging expense.

Most places will get you into a 2 to 3 year old 172 for $120 an hour, wet!

FIND A NEW FLIGHT SCHOOL!

 
Cub all the way, they are a blast. I did all of my training in 172's and warriors and flew a super cub for my seaplane a few months later and fell in love with them. They are so fun, I would highly reccomend a cub. The DA-20 I'm not so much a fan of but I only flew it once, the DA-42 on the other hand is amazing if you get a chance to fly one down the road.
 
all the schools around SNA are expensive :mad:
and there is ATP in longbeach which is 1hr away from where I live without the traffic.
I guess longbeach and san diego are the closest next to SNA
but they both take more than 1hr w/o the traffic
I'm a full time college student... so I don't think I can afford to drive more than 2 hrs in total along with school and work.....
 
Correct me if I am wrong but the Citibria and the Cub are taildraggers right?

If he/she obtains the PPL in one of those wouldn't he/she have to get lessons for the tricycle landing gear as well?

So if this is correct, the cheaper way might be to go with either the 152 (I am training in that now) or the Diamonds.

The 152 is a great little plane. I like how the slightest wind knocks the plane around. Its alot of fun to fly.

What city do you live in? Have you tried looking at French Valley or Fullerton?

If you noticed my girlfriend has her hand around my throat... No idea why. I have another picture with me doing the same to her. We didn't realize until we got the pics back.

If you learned to fly in a taildragger, why would you need lessons in a "dummy gear" airplane.


Learn in a taildragger if you possibly can.

If not, I liked the DA-20. A very nice airplane that will make you learn airspeed controll.

I wasn't sure if you would need lessons to go from taildraggers to Tric gear.

I was assuming that since you need lessons from tric to taildraggers it would be the same in reverse.
