NDB entry?

Even if our Cirri had ADF equipment on board, we couldn't use NDB approaches anyway per ops spec.

They'll all be gone soon enough I suppose.

Yep. But they didn't even train us to fly NDB approaches in the sim when I went through which was odd because I ended up flying into Yreka/Siskyou many times and that occasionally required flying an NDB/GPS approach http://155.178.201.160/d-tpp/1308/00882NGA.PDF (also funny because we were required to have a GPS approach sign off before we could fly said approach, but nobody ever bothered to finish my training for that). Fortunately, I never had to use that approach to get into either airport.

Interestingly, it appears the Montague NDB is still in commission. I'm actually quite shocked to see that.

I did the NDB into WJF in the torture box in BUR. Never trained one online though. Flew the NDB-A many times into LGD. It's an overlay, but not many airplanes had a gps.

AMF202 was not for the faint hearted in the winter, I almost miss it lol. Too bad the current company doesn't allow NDB approaches per OpSpecs.

It was working as of a couple months ago. We picked up Steven Seagal in KSIY and the NDB was working like a champ, it was VFR though.

We've got the op spec for it but we don't have a single airplane with an ADF installed.

Given the affordability of reliable and accurate GPS equipment, using an NDB for serious IFR navigation borders on reckless. Yeah, I know they're still hugely popular outside of the US, but again, GPS is so incredibly affordable for what we ask it to do in terms of aerial navigation.

I agree. A bunch of AMF's accidents would have been avoided with it. I'd bet the cost to outfit the entire fleet would be cheaper than 1 accident.

I recall being very concerned about flying that approach in the sim, but it never came up. WIN!

Am I mistaken or were very few or none of the Chieftains ADF-equipped? Inverted, do you recall? I know most or all of the Hos had ADF, but when we downsized the fleet to all Chieftains, I feel like the ADFs were non-existent. Also, I wasn't even paying attention because I never flew NDB approaches and I had my ipod for music.

Yes, but then the cowboys couldn't derp about how they don't need no stinkin' GPS!

I did the NDB into WJF and POM in the sim, just to hear The Bob get his jollies off lol.

I did my interview with bob, and we did the NDB into POM. I thought that was incredibly odd at the time.

On the NDB-C into WJF, you'll notice the feeder route from the PMD VOR is the same as the outbound/inbound bearing from the GWF NDB. Just make sure you have 115 set into the CDI/HSI and you can't possibly mess it up.

Boy I cannot remember, but I want to say they were. Although the only times I remember actually doing the NDB approach was in a Jo.

IIRC, all the Chieftan's with GPS had the ADF taken out. That was the downside of having a GPS airplane. No NPR that day. When I was at pdx I think about a third of the pa31's had GPS, and we only had 1 jo, the rest were 350's.
