My CFI is a sex offender

I'm a student pilot who is about to take their check ride for my private pilot license. One night I'm studying with a buddy and one thing leads to another and we end up googling his name for his ignominious ground instruction, or lack there of. The first thing that shows up is a sex offender registry with his name, picture, and defining characteristics right there. I first met him when I was 17 but did not fly with him until I was 18. During this time I was never informed of his status. I am already levying legal action towards him for other things, but how could this complicate, or add to the process?

(This is my first post, sorry if anything is wrong or if I didn't give enough information)

It sounds like you already have a damaged relationship and are not interacting with him anymore. If this is true and he didn't do anything sexually inappropriate then I see no reason to do anything about it.

If you are still flying with him, then I would sit down with him and let him know about your concerns. Ask him to clarify what the circumstances were and get verification. If he doesn't want to discuss it then move on to someone else.

I worked at a place that had a mechanic who had been convicted of “attempted rape.” It was found out when we googled the guy because he was strange and always clammed up when we asked anything about where he was from. To be fair that mechanic was a weird dude and kind of an ass, but that doesn’t preclude your former cfi from being a decent person, who knows, the guy might have had a girlfriend too young and the parents didn’t like it.

Or more likely he’s a creep. But whatever, if he didn’t do anything to you I’d let sleeping dogs lie.

You should despise the people who populate it.
Irrelevant. How I feel about people who molest kids, or rape people has no impact on how I feel about a list that essentially public shaming.

This doesn't even account for people who are on the damn thing that are anything but sex offenders. See, the public pissers, or a 19 year old sleeping with his 17 year old girlfriend, or a drunk guy who went streaking, or those few who are falsely accused.

Like others have said, I wouldn't assume he's a pervert off the bat...the sex offender registry can be subjective. Who knows, he could've been one of those guys who got stupid drunk one night and relieved himself in public only to get caught...it's happened to many. Not a good choice to get that drunk in public obviously given the risk of the law coming back to bite you, but I have more sympathy for someone like that than I would an actual pervert...just saying

...ignominious ground instruction, or lack there of.

I think you're using this word incorrectly, if you actually know what it means.

I think what he meant to say was "Infamous".

"Ignoble" ground instruction could work. I've seen a lot of ignoble (not noble, common) ground instruction. But ignoble lacks the sense of "well known for..." that infamous carries.

"Ignominious" is generally used to heighten the sense of disgrace or tawdriness surrounding something already considered shameful, debauched or outside the social norms.

Oh, the ignominy of this post of mine... I'll stop now.

I started watching the sex offender list after I had kids. Public urination is frequently brought up as a reason to be against the list, but I've yet to see anyone in my area for something so petty. The people I've seen on there are actual sex offenders, not someone who peed in an alley.
I have kids. Maybe yours are older and play more by themselves, but I've never once looked at it or felt like I needed to. We had a guy move in a year or two ago. People say he was on the registry posted flyers with his picture and crime on it on every corner in the neighborhood. That disgusts me.

Public urination is not a sex offense in all jurisdications.

But it can be a "plead to a lesser charge" or excuse/defense for indecent exposure.
