Moving to New Jersey

Fort Dix is exactly where I'm going, NE Philly airport does look nice to me, one of the schools there is also on VA list of approved programs, but I have no idea how long it takes to actually drive there in traffic. It should be something around 30-40 miles or so. Where I'm at now it's less than 20 miles to the airport but with the traffic it makes for good 45 minutes drive, maybe 30 on a good day.

If you're going to be living near Fort Dix your options will be somewhat limited. There's a really cheap flying club at Flying W. I considered it until I saw their equipment and then I passed. As an ex-pro, you need to pay me to fly that kind of unairworthy crap.

There is also two flying clubs at Lakewood (N12). I don't anything about either of them other than what I've seen online. But both look like they're worth looking into. And if you're near Dix, it might not be that much of a drive for you. I'm just North a Trenton and the hour plus drive was too much for me to even consider it at this point in my life so I never pursued it further.

Besides that, there is also a really attractive partnership deal in a 182 at Northeast Philly that I might consider looking into if my wife ends up not having to move for work next year. You can find it if you search for partnerships on aso.com. Basically it's a $7k buy in and $73/hr for very nicely equipped (430W/coupled autopilot) 182 hangared at KPNE. Seems like a good deal if you're going to be in the area.

I grew up in Weehawken and worked in Paramus.

Nice, I am right by Weehawken, upper North Bergen

Skidz and NotCoolEnufToFly, you guys are going to enjoy NJ, trust me. I was apprehensive about moving up here to, and I don't regret it for one minute, it sure does beat Miami all year round.

Speaking of New Jersey, what's up with the big hair, velour zip-up jogging outfits and the girls wearing sweatpants that say "Juicy" or "Bebe" on the back. They have any idea what "Bebe" means in French?

And like, what's up with Jersey guys who crank call their homies when he's got a lady in the house? Wazzupawiddat?

If Jersey's so cool, why don't they pick up after themselves a little more. Or is that "A littah mo-WAH!"? :)

Incoming in three....two... one...

What wrong with a little pizazz?

I like to smack my buddy on the back and say "Howya doin!?" Kisses to everyone...It's not a Sopranos episode but I think we're tight knit...I don't think you see that in other places to such a degree.

So, are you interested in coming to our M & G? :)

Another confused soul believing Staten Island is a part of the great state of New Jersey. :dunno:

I enjoy living in Jersey, except for two things - cold winters and traffic around the tunnels to NYC. Oh, and the cost of flying
Other than that it's cheaper than living in Manhattan, but you still are close enough to have access to all the good stuff
I'm in Essex county - the area is nice, though the taxes are steep. If you're buying a house, it's good timing.

I moved to Morristown, NJ almost 5 years ago from VA and have enjoyed my time here. Honestly I hated it for the first 2 years but I still wasn't willing to commute. Since then I've finally started to understand the place and appreciate it. It is very expensive but that's life along the northeast seaboard. Like Doug said, I still don't understand why people can't pick up for themselves but it's not so much of an issue in the more rural areas (which we have a lot more of than one might think). The winters are cold but I really enjoy four seasons...the other three make it worthwhile especially fall. Finally, NJ has some REALLY cool small towns with a lot to offer.

I'd move back to VA tomorrow given the opportunity but that's more because I'll always be a Virginian, not because I hate NJ. In fact I think I'll always look back at my time in Morristown very favorably.

One last note, whoever started to knock the NJ public school system doesn't have a clue. My wife has worked in two different districts here, as well as school systems in 2 other states, and the quality of education that most kids get here rivals that of any other state in her opinion.

:yeahthat: Teachers in NJ should be really put on a pedestal when it comes to education, I may not have liked school, but I must say the education and everyday knowledge I recieved personally from my teachers cannot be rivaled by any other state! To what I have seen/experienced teachers in NJ really love to teach and put the most into it daily! Big Ups to NJ Teachers!:rawk:

Neither of you ever had Sister Donna or Sister Lucy.

New Orleans can loosely translate in my dictionary as "very bad luck" :D

 Get the hell outta here my friend I totally understand after 5 or 6 flying jobs for me and having almost 800 hours to show for it. I can't wait to move myself. I have one stick in the fire and if nothing happens at the end of the year I am done here. I'm happy for ya'll.

Katrina...2009...We're still not OK. Hang the flag upside down and put a fleur de lis in the middle.

I can't speak about private schools in NJ. But I will say there are many top notch public and private schools throughout the state.
:yup: JFK Memorial HS is one of them which is in Woodbridge Township which also has great middle and elementry schools!

Everyone judges New Jersey based on everything Trenton and north. South Jersey is like a completely different state. :whatever:

Oh yeah, and does anybody know of any flying clubs in the South Jersey Shore area? The one closest to the Cape May area is in Medford... :(

Hey Pam!

What part of New Jersey do you guys live in. I'm have a place that I pay part of the lease on in Florham Park.

Well we don't live there yet, not until November 3rd or so, but we'll be in Mount Holly. According to mapquest it's about and hour and a half away.

Not true. Most people do this, but not everyone. Some of us have lived at both ends of the state and know the difference.

Not true again. There is a pretty good club based at ACY. PM me if you want some info.

i've lived at the jersey shore my whole life and i love it. people talk crap about it but it's beautiful. every state has "ugly" parts.
