Most Extreme Airports

That approach into Aspen is fun. I like the visual circling maneuver though. Us and great lakes were the only ones authorized to do the circle.

Is there anything else that second localizer is there for, or is it just to track for the missed approach/keep you away from the mountains?
It's sole purpose in life... kinda weird that theres just a random localizer assembly out in the middle of nowhere.

It was also used on the special engine out departure that Mesa got approved, which is probably similar to what SkyWest and Lynx use. The best single engine departure was in Eagle/Vail where if you were before 2.2 dme or so you had to enter a 15' bank left(?) 360' turn. Not 20', not 10'.

with airspeed requirement... what about high winds?

I've been on the lookout for an approach plate I saw a long time ago that depicted a bent runway (i.e., the reciprocal heading was about 20° different from 180°). The total length was reasonable, but there was a turn about halfway along the distance, which made each straight segment kind of short.

Does that ring any bells?

spzo- cuzco, peru. field elevation nearly 10900', that alone makes it interesting. add some 16000' terrain near the approach, and around 21000' about 20 miles from the vor makes it even more interesting.

The airports I saw before changing the channel were Lindbergh, St. Marteen, Gibraltar, Madeira, and Kai Tek.

I've been watching it...yawn. Seems to be on par with one of those air disaster shows. Everything is over dramatic and a lot of the airports don't seem all that extreme. It should be titled most popular/filmed airports.

List isn't that great in my opinion. To put st marteen at 4 and kai tak at 8 doesn't really make that mu@h sense. It also just seems over dramatized.

What a horrible collection of pointless after-commercial recaps, dramatic music, and over sensationalizing of normal aviation procedures.

After every break there's a long recap of all the prior mentioned airports, as if there's going to be some sort of test at the end.

I really hate the history channel.

The part on St Maarten and the jetblast couldn't help but remind me of the time I was in the tower and watched a fully loaded C-17 spool up to depart a 4200 ft runway. The two poor guys fishing in the john boat in the river 50 ft off the runway end got the ride of their lives and wet. :laff:
