Here's Moscow!

I flew with Staplegun too! :) Also, we ran into Flyingsig who was also in Moscow on a trip and we had a chance to share some adult beverages and tons of laughs during the layover.

Here we go:

International conversion chart. Russians speak in "meters" when they issue altitude assignments. So if they say, "Descend and maintain 1300 meters" you have to convert it to feet and then program the automation accordingly. A little extra work, but it's not bad once you've done it a couple times.

More pictures in the next coming days...

The trip is JFK-SVO-ATL(tonight)-SVO-JFK

Great pictures:)

Greenland is pretty impressive from the air. On the from Frankfurt to Whitehorse the route was clear, and while alot of people slept, I got an impressive view of Greenland and the Northwest Territories.

I see that you carefully omitted the "adult beverage" pictures. ;):D

Nice photos! Looks like you guys had a good time. Thanks Doug. :)

Well, we were out partying with the other crew (including Flyingsig) but it's a little awkward pulling out the camera and telling everyone to pose and smile for the camera! :)

Kevin's got a bunch of good pictures, but he's probably just arriving in Chicago....about right now, but he's probably beat so you probably won't see any additional photos for a few days. Poor guy didn't get a landing! :) I did!

So you hogged all the landings while he took photos? :p

I got the first landing, the captain did the second, then Kevin got released from the trip because the captain had to train a new guy.

I can semi-confidently assure you that Stapledude can do an agreeable landing! :)

Besides, we made a coin-toss for who was going to fly the first leg and he lost fair and square!

Semi-confidently? Well, we'll see what Mr. Staplegun has to say about that! Since I'm a travelbug myself, I really enjoy it when you guys post your travelogues. I think everyone does, and it's an inspiration to the young guys to continue on. :)

And what's really cool is that we had a "mini JC meet 'n greet" because it was I, Staplegun and Flyingsig.

Pure karma too. I didn't specifically bid Staplegun's trip nor did Sigpilot bid to be in Moscow. It just worked out that way.

That's absolutely pimp.

I know you are both typed and all, but that's still a pretty funny picture of two FOs keeping watch across the NATS.

Nice pictures. I miss Moscow.

Thanks bro!

It goes like this:

There's the flying pilot, the non-flying pilot and the relief pilot for the leg.

The captain said, "Which one of you wants to fly the leg to Moscow" so Kevin and I did a coin toss for it.

I won the coin toss so I was the "flying pilot" and Staplegun played "relief pilot".

So, from pushback to top-of-climb,we were all in the cockpit.

At top of climb, Staplegun went back on break, I sat in the FO seat and the captain sat in the left seat.

Traditionally, after the first break is done, the flying pilot starts break. That way he's got more than sufficient time to plan descent, arrival and approach.

Staplegun comes back up after break, and then I go to the cabin on my rest break. At this point, the captain is in his seat and Staplegun, the relief pilot, are in the cockpit. Staplegun is performing my "flying pilot" duties.

After my break is up, I regain control of my FO seat, the captain starts break and then Staplegun sits in the captain's seat and takes over his "pilot monitoring" duties.

After the 'non-flying pilots' break is up, we're all back in the cockpit at top-of-descent, arrival and approach, roughly 30 minutes out from landing.

Clear as a heavy lead curtain? :)

Indeed. I just wonder what's going to happen (or how it worked before 9-11) when you could jumpseat international up front. Probably not the place for this discussion, but with 3 pilots required up front during the departure and arrival and not every ETOPS bird having a fourth jumpseat (757s cough cough), where does the jumpseater go?

At least at my airline, there are two jumpseats in all international airplanes. At least one available per leg.

He sits in the crew rest seat until it's needed for crew rest!

Seriously! You guys have the best job on the planet. Great pics. Thanks again for sharing.

Nice photo's Doug... it was fun running into you guys.

I don't have a lot to add to this thread except my personal north latatude record, a big block of ice, a lot of snow and my hometown... ;)
