I had one FO do it at my previous gig and I told him if I saw (or even heard him) do it again, my next call would be to the CP's office. At my current shop I saw one captain pull a "YEERRRR ONNNN GUARRRDD!!!" going in to LAX at about 1500 feet (as pilot flying). I just gave him a ton of grief about his crappy landing.
So you threatened the FO with a call to the CP, but just gave the jackass captain grief about his landing? I think doing it at 1500 feet and screwing up the landing is way more deserving of escalation.
Nah, you go to Southwest if you want to constantly hear about how they did things in the Air Force.
Same here and same goes for my last shop. I’m really curious who the culprits are.
The only time I shared the flight deck with someone who played on guard it was with a captain. Guy was 60yrs old at the time. I’m minding my business and keep seeing his lips move but don’t hear anything. Forgot I turned guard down so I could actually hear NY center so when I turn it back up to see what he’s talking about he’s meowing and saying some smart ass remark on there. I looked over because he didn’t think I heard him that time. He turned red and didn’t say anything but he never did it again when we flew. It was an awkward situation because It’s his flight deck but let’s be adults and professionals. I wasn’t surprised when he got put out the company FB group for not being able to contain himself after this past election. Thank god I don’t hear any meowing and other BS at the new gig. I guess the children and adults with child like brains are sleep at 3am.Hang in there. There's a generational change coming that is a whole lot more centrist than the old guard.
We'll be back to meowing in no time.
My theory is that the kids at the regionals right now can't go 45 seconds without someone "liking" something they posted on Instagram, so the meow BS is just a way for them to get noticed and acknowledged until they return to earth and the warm embrace of good broadband.
The PNW has been blessedly quiet on guard. The only time I shared the flight deck with someone who played on guard it was with a captain. Guy was 60yrs old at the time. Its every flipping hour during daylight hours on the east coast. The PNW has been blessedly quiet on guard.
I can’t believe I used to complain about doing SJC-SAN-SNA-SFO-PDX and the like endlessly. Great weather, great scenery, and just chill vibes. When I transferred back east and did almost exclusively Chicago and the east coast is when I started not liking flying as much. The PNW has been blessedly quiet on guard.
There is no escaping it. Please reference my post above where a navy P8 is over contested Chinese Airspace. The only time I shared the flight deck with someone who played on guard it was with a captain. Also, the east coast, where people live. Hehe
Y'all can deselect the volume on guard? If comm R is on guard, you can turn it down but not turn it off.I heard my first one over New York yesterday. I was happy to see that the captain (old, somewhat grumpy conservative dude) deselected the volume on guard on his radio faster than I did on mine.

My base doesn’t even do SAN layoversI had the audacity to bitch about LAX-SAN-SEA-PDX a few years ago on the 319. I would murder to stay on the west coast now.
