monocular vision FAA requirments

hello there. Im wondering if i would be able to receive a monocular vision SODA let alone an 1st or 3rd class medical. After doing some research i found that my contacts need to be a certain strength. I looked at my prescription and cannot really decipher it but heres what it is.
L BC 6.9 PWR -11.00 SC 8.2 DIA 14.5 // R BC 8.6 PWR -12.00 no SC or DIA listed on label
I have 20/25 vision in my left eye with correction 50% correct on 20/20 line but my right eye is 20/200.
With this in mind would i even qualify for a FAA monocular waiver, let alone a medical and is 1st class even an option or should i just go for a 3rd class? Also since im not color blind but i stink at reading the color blind plate test should i see if the farnsworth lantern or light gun tests are available or do i need to fail the standard colorblind test first? Thanks for your answer. Ive been waiting for the GAPA bill to go through so i wouldnt need to get a medical for PPL flying, but if I can quality for a monocular SODA then that would be great. My folks have said that my vision will never be good enough for flying but i would like to prove them wrong.

Yes you would qualify for a mono vision SODA unless there is something you have not stated.

Try the Farnsworth lantern to be sure you can pass the color vision tests.

Thank you for the answer. Although i read in the FAA Pilot Vision brochure that one of the requirements to get the waiver is that "
Uncorrected distant visual acuity in the better eye is 20/200 or better and is cor-
rected to 20/20 or better by lenses of no greater power than ±3.5 diopters spherical equivalent" so what number in my lens information says that it is less than 3.5 diopters. If its obviously PWR, then how does -11.0 and -12.0 pass the requirement? and would 20/25 fufill the requirement as well or would i need to hit 20/20? Oh and one last thing? Can a eye doctor do the color vision testing using whatever method i.e. Farnsworth latern or do they need to use the ishihara plates for the testing? Finally, since im in perfect health in all other areas? Would 1st class be out or should i just shoot for 3rd class? Thanks

Oh also sorry for the double post but i forgot to ask. Since i havent started flight training yet do i need to get a medical before i start? Also do i need one before i complete my first solo, thought i read somewhere that you need one to solo xc. Otherwise i read that you go for the medical, get deferred and send paperwork to OKC, then get your test approval and do your SODA and PPL checkride same day.

you'll need to liaise with the FSDO on the medical flight test. I hear they can defer to a DPE but usually like to do them themselves, so that is something to consider when working on the checkride particulars.

Thanks however do i need to do the ame medical before i start flight training? Or can i do the medical, get deferred, then after the FAA practical and SODA check i can get my medical?

Thanks. I'm currently looking for AMEs with SODA and eye issue experience. Kinda funny how in my search i found an AME and in the FAA directory it says his specialty is OB/GYN. Wonder when the last time he gave a AME exam let alone a 1st class exam was.

I don't know, they may defer it and the FAA medical division issues you a training medical, so best to get it checked well before you start training.

The AME can issue a student only license to you.

The -12.00 is significant but the FAA can waive that at the discretion of the Federal Air Surgeon.

Yes, get your medical before you start and if you want to be a professional pilot, get a First class medical to start with. If you don't the SOD will only be good for a 3rd cals medical.

Have you had or heard or pilots getting approved for medicals even with -12 or -11? Also the faa said i need to get an eye doctor faa eval first then when i go to the medical the ame will send it to okc with my medxpress stuff. Also how do i account for it on my medxpress under comments, should i go through it with the ame i want to see before i submit it? Since it isn't an official examination I'm guessing he isn't required to report anything to faa that would blacklist me from the start.

And why is the -11 or -12 so significant? If i can see with the contacts then why should it matter what power they are?

Those refractions indicate an uncorrected visual acuity of >2-/400. this used tone totally disqualifu=ying before the SODA process was approved.
