Midwest/Delta

Isn't the 190 a 100 seat airplane?

There are lots of configs. The 190-200 (195) can hold up to 106, but I think most 190 configs are lower.

I mean the 170 was a great 70 seater, and US crammed 78 seats in it. So the airframe is very flexible to different seating arrangements.

Embraer.com shows all the possibilities.

An unprecedented rapid upgrade - in some cases in 70 and 90 seat turbojet aircraft - is not an excuse to forfeit F/O compensation.

Growth can not last forever. At some point the music stops and a mature pilot group must look critically at its CBA to ensure that the First Officers are taken care of. There is simply no excuse for a lousy 4 or 5 year + F/O payrate because "Well, they'll be Captains by then".

CBA's aren't ala` cart. You expect the company to comply, and you should comply too.

This should just serve a lesson as to the importance of scope. If the company can give away your work, your CBA is worthless.

Another lesson learned: Severance package in the CBA. It's like newlyweds making out wills: they don't want to talk about the possibility, but they need to just in case. You never know when your company will fold.

Every ALPA-approved CBA (since April 2008) should have this clause.

Ok so for real, is Midex really gonna get farmed out 100% to a subcontractor, thus completely replacing an entire airline with regional feed while slapping" Midwest" on the side of the airplane and making like there's been no bait and switch to the passengers?

I mean...is this really possible? Or is the whole operation just going to go tits up? I mean I just can't even fathom this one. If this is in fact what happens, then you don't have airlines anymore, you have brands. You sell your brand, and your brand is served by whatever contractor can do it for the least amount of money. You're in effect having "mainline regionals," who don't exist for their own flying, but simply service an ENTIRE BRAND instead of providing FEED to an existing brand.

I mean does this seem crazy to anybody else? Is this REALLY possible?

United and Aer Lingus comes to mind.

United and Aer Lingus is nothing, both companies still exist.

If this really happens, Midwest won't exist anymore. The brand of Midwest will exist, but there will be no company, no rampers, no gate agents, etc. etc.

Think of it as franchising an airline.

I know this. But if this little deal between United and Aer Lingus works out, whats the incentive for UAL to ever expand? They wont, they will just do this with more routes, then possibly pull down other routes and build these relationships. Eventually becoming an airline of regionals, and international agreements.

This is happening. The way things were, are not anymore.

Sure. I believe it's possible. And you're right. It pretty much would be an airline franchise. If it weren't for scope clauses, I'd bet the "brand" airline model would be in full effect right now. Why pay mainline wages when you can farm out those 757 with an "operated by" on the side to the lowest bidder and just deal with selling tickets on Orbitz.

If this goes through for real I give it 20 years MAX before all domestic flying is farmed out to regional carriers through a system such as this.

Give it another 10 years after that for mainline international flying to go the same way.

I got my first law school acceptance letter today, and boy am I glad that if all else fails and I have to go to this school (it's my fallback school) I don't have to go back to the airlines unless I make that choice. This career is going to go down the tubes.

Congratulations!

Where to?

Kevin

A pretty low level school just a few miles north of Cincy.

I hope I get into some other schools, it's seriously my fall back school! I've already been dinged on two of my ten applications, so I've got seven more to go!

Good luck!

Just remember, "a lawyer is a lawyer..."

Unless you intend on joining some high-priced, big-boy firm back East most clients won't ask where you went to school...

IMO, Delta is doing this to point Midwest customers in their direction, should Midwest go away. Midwest is doing this because they feel it helps their business.

190 payrates are a hot topic at RAH right now. Velo didn't mention that RAH is in contract negotiations with the pilot group.

As are PSA/PDT and many others in talks. We all know how long those last though. Thus Midex will either totally be out sourced before any get a new contract or they will go belly up before it happens.

Maybe Delta didnt Expand the codeshare, but thats what it made it sound like. Why would delta expand a codeshare with a shell of an airline? Is this basically just another re-branding from NW to DL...just extending what NW had to make it to the new DL?

RAH is down to one section, compensation. I believe youll be seeing a TA in the next few months.
You think it'll take only a couple months? I was under the impression that most of the other sections were on the table and not agreed on yet?
