Mid range Twin Turboprop

Damnit, I always miss the batsignal. Thanks for stepping in for me there, Quagmire. I will just say that this is basically the mission the Marquise was born for and you're a nancy if you don't get one. It'll put hair on your chest, and you'll get there in a hurry.
But can you reasonably operate it for $300k/year? That seems awfully low.

Insurance and training is going to eat a lot of that up.

I need some help here. . . from a business sense, why doesn't he simply lease something large enough for what he desires? In the initial stages of deciding what he believes he wants, he missed the mark. Seems to me I'd spend time looking at appropriate lease options vice purchase.
Depending on the number of hours, for that budget, charter is probably the best way to go. Bank the $600k even at 2% and use the $300k/year to charter. That could be anything from taking a KA350 to a Challenger back and forth.

Leasing may not be a bad option if he can find someone. Insurance may be an issue depending on pilot qualifications. The lessor is going to be the one setting the insurance terms, which will make it tough.

Kinda leaning in that direction as well. . .charter/lease.

Damn you are really trying your heart out to unload that thing.
As long as I'm part of the deal, yes. :D

Single pilot, part 91 would be fan-freakin-tastic. Though the pax we've had the past few days was great. Same guy. Lots of legs, quick stops, short duty days, pleasant guy. Doesn't get much better....unless it's 91.

It's not turbine but there are some nice Panther Chieftans on Controller for well under your price range.

Nice Lock & Key Chieftan here.

I used to fly for the guy who does these. Not turbine, but he buys em ragged out and does a full colemill conversion, paint, interior, nice avionics and it's night and day from the original product. He does em right and doesn't spare expense on getting them to top notch shape mechanically. Unfortunately for the poster- it's not turbine but will haul a good load in style at a respectable speed.

Your best bet would be a king air 100 with pratts. Cheyenne IIIs are newer (more expensive) and a bit more pricey but will go faster.

I really don't think you'll be able to do what you want with less than 300k/year unless you will be flying some tiny amount, in which case he's probably better off chartering. Your fixed costs will be north of 100k just to have the plane in the hangar and insured with a pilot/manager on salary, and the calendar interval inspections. On top of that you'll be spending ~1000/hr for fuel, mx and all your hourly costs (engine reserves etc). That leaves less than 200 hours of flying per year.

This.

200 hours at 250 knots on 1000 mile trips is 25 round trips. Not exactly the best use for a 250 knot airplane. OTOH.............that would be a freakin great job!!! 2 Trips/month? Sign me up!

:D

I fly the UC-12F (BE-200 with 1000 lbs increase in gross weight over stock models) and it cannot haul 8 people 1000 miles. I think one of the three factors you listed has to give. You either need more money, less people, or less distance.

Thank you all so far for the advice and ideas. It is definitely turning into a case of the owner wanting more than he is willing to spend. He is going to have to make some sacrifices somewhere. The plane won't always have 8 pax and won't always be going 1000 miles. Most of trips will be around 400-800 NM with 6 pax. He said he can raise the annual budget 100K. He definitely wants a twin, and preferably turbine. It is looking like a King Air E90 might fit the mission. Keep the ideas coming!

A three blade older mu-2 shortbody will blow the doors off any 90 kingair, and cost way less to acquire. Might cost a bit more to maintain, but the acquisition cost is so low you'd have to fly it a fair amount for it to cost more, excluding the pleasures of going faster and being (way) more Manly.

Plus an MU-2 makes TONS more noise. And as we all know, airplane noise="The sound of freedom"

Man...nobody is nibbling on the MU2 idea. I'm not getting that. OP was told that his original mission could be accomplished by an MU2, and for sure the modified mission...yet no "Wow...let me look into it". For my money that is what I'd get.

As long as it fits the annual budget (and I still think it's going to be tight at $400-$450k/yr) it is probably a great fit.

I am almost in the same shoes, except it is for a jet and he doesn't want a t-prop which would fit everything perfectly.
