mesaba pilots have tentative deal..

For me, there's too many "if" statements in this one. They get profit sharing IF it breaks 4%. What if they creatively keep it at 3.9%? They get nice raises IF they go over 79 aircraft. What if they stop at 78? If it were me, I wouldn't trust the same management team that worked a shady bankruptcy NOT to execute every loophole they can find in the TA.

Thanks for pointing out all the ifs. I havent really had a chance to look at this TA. I could definitely see the profit sharing saty at 3.9 and funnel everything above that to MAIR. But as far as the jets go, I dont think they would hesitate getting more jets from the mothership, just because they dont want to give payraises to their pilots. Because the rev. generated from the extra planes would defintely cover the raises given to the pilots.

What you gotta love (if you are with pncl) is that mesaba just sent out notices for recalls and PNCL is turning people away from interviews and cancelling remaining interview classes and class dates till at least feb 07. And they say they are 90 FO's fat... this makes me feel great!

Calm down and step away from the keyboard. Grab a MGD and go back to the flows....

Believe me, when you're on reserve you'll have PLENTY of time to ponder PCLs future. :)

• Preferential Bidding System(PBS) after 1 year
o Improved PBS after 1 year or 60 total aircraft

If there was ANY doubt if PBS is a concessionary item this should confirm that thought. I'm 100% AGAINST PBS. Unfortunately, some memebers of the union are gunning for it. No thanks.

We were told by our pilot association that PBS actually increased the company's costs. More people were able to fly less with PBS than before and the company had to hire an extra 300 pilots to cover the flying.

Hmmm. PBS lowers the required staffing levels, according to the vendors and our company management. Are you sure the company didn't get more block hours when it went to PBS?

It also does completely away with things such as intergration and trip touching on vacation. Under PBS my 22 days of vacation goes to 10, in addition to lowering my relative senority as the most senior of pilots benefit and leave the left overs for 90% of the pilot group. Yeah, you can say I'm still against it!

We're running trials on PBS here. It varies from "my line rocks!" to "WTF??!!!11!!"

Generally, the senior guys get a decent credit with like 18 days off, and the junior guys get 10 days off. On EVERY trial run, no matter how I work it, all of me reserve lines come up with 6 on/2 off, which magically equals 10 days. I'd think I was doing something wrong if all the other reserve guys weren't getting the same thing. The FAs went live with PBS a few months ago, and the general concensus is "Hate it." People that have been getting 16-17 days off are getting 5 day trips with 10 days off now. People that want high speeds are getting long trips, and people with long trips are getting high speeds. Personally, I think it COULD work if people would spend some time and fix some of the glitches. A few months ago, we had all the senior CAs get awarded reserve lines through PBS!

Part of the problem is that there is NO formal training on how to use the system. You get a cryptic, poorly written manual that does nothing but explain what the terms in the program mean during training. Past that, you have to go with trial and error and hope what you bid will work. That's fine in the testing stages, but what if you're a new hire and this thing is live? You could be SERIOUSLY screwed. About the only training I've noticed is talking to other pilots who have already spent months and have it mostly figured out.

Now, on with the thread...

Now, ask yourself "Why did Mesaba need to recall guys?" They're probably gonna get more Saab flying for the holidays, and in order to trim fat and look good for the court, they furloughed the guys they would need for that month. Now, after the holidays are over, there's a good chance those guys might be BACK at Home Depot. NWA can't just give that flying to PCL b/c we're better staffed than Mesaba right now. BTW, I'd say we might actually be fat on FOs, especially counting your class and the one behind you. The CA I flew with today said he and all the guys he knows on reserve are flying 75-80 hours a month on reserve. I haven't cracked 50 hours yet on reserve. So, I'd say we're probably good on FOs, but short on CAs. If they would run upgrade classes like they should and need to, the staffing would probably even out.

"PNCL is turning people away from interviews and cancelling remaining interview classes and class dates till at least feb 07"

If that's true, there's gonna be a bunch of JetU and ATP guys that are gonna feel cheated...

As far as I know, Oct 30th was the last class date. Don't know of anymore. There's an upgrade class scheduled, but not new hire classes.

haha, GA tech is right, just relax. You're getting worked about nothing. Dont think XJ is recalling and we stopped hiring, because Mesaba won all the jets. Keep in mind that we have been hiring since long before i got here, yet we stopped recieving planes in August of 05, we have actually lost 15 planes since then! We were never hiring for growth, no matter what HR or Training might have made you think. this whole time we have been hiring for a ridiculous amount of attrition. they have stopped the hemorrahging of FOs, like we used to. However we are now losing a lot of capts. So much so that the last vacancy netted 3 upgrade classes. THough it still isnt as bad as earlier this year. So no need to worry, we'll start back up the hiring before u know it.
