Mesaba flowthrough

I know that both our union and deltas union are fighting to protect a flow but i don't think delta management wants it anymore. Sounds like they are at least trying to do something about it and if a flow doesnt work they may be able to get some sort of deal.

I don't know why Delta management WOULDN'T want it, to tell you the truth. It's a guaranteed pipeline of people to pull from, and they don't have to burn a lot of HR resources to do it. Everyone starts at year 1 pay, so I don't see how having a flow is different than hiring off the street in that regard.

Then again, if it makes sense in the airline environment, it's probably the last thing that'll happen.

Because they, (DL mangmt,) would actually have to increase their HR resources. DL does not want to rely on anyone else doing their hiring interviews. By using the flow, DL either has to rely on others to do the hiring, or do the hiring for all airlines flowing. There are financial and legal costs that go well beyond "what makes sense."

here is what i would like to see happen with us and mesaba going forward if the flow is going to be cancelled.. I respect that Delta does not want to the flow. They want to hire their own guys and so on and so forth. I would like to see gauranteed interviews set up instead of an automatic flow through. That way delta can chose if they want our guys or not but at least we would get a chance. So say delta is going to hire 600 one year. Each month 20-30 of our guys would get their interview slot. If said pilot meets delta's requirements and they like them, then they get hired. If not, then they stay at pinnacle until they go somewhere else. They should also extend this offer to other dci''s as well.

I have emailed my rep this idea.

Some of the DCI's already have preferential interviews.

9E is one of those, however, I don't know the details involved. In fact, I think it's just another part of the DCI contract. "Fly for us, and we'll give you preferential interview." Without some kind of hard legalise in place, it makes little difference. If EVERYONE has preferential interviews, what good is it really?

They should get rid of the flow because it offers an easy way to capture lost scope, and a lot of airframes too. I'm afraid that Capt. "RJs are good for Delta" Moak is going to give up that scope for new free lanyards or something.

+1. I wish everyone would stop calling it preferential hiring.

Im not talking preferential. I mean gauranteed interviews. I think that would be at least a nice thing to do for the mesaba guys that were going to get the flow and for the pinnacle guys becuase we will be on the same list as them.

And Compass. I mean, I'm not a big fan of someone telling me "You shoulda gone to Compass and gotten hired at a major airline like me," but they should be included in that as well for fairness' sake. Yes, someone really did say that to me in DTW. I wish I had his number, and I would have called him on July 1st and asked if they were still a "major."

Yeah, that post wasn't at you.
