Mesa Compared to other flight school

Afternoon to everyone, once I finish my commercial and get ALL my CFI’s ratings, I plan on looking into one of the programs. Right now I have talked with Flight Safety Academy and Mesa regarding there PACE program and ATP

They all seem to have there good and bad points.

From what I have heard is that most pilots don’t like the Mesa Pilots, they are the one responsible for the low pay and getting a bad contract….not sure how much of that is true or not. But just by reading other post. There is no guarantee that you will get a job. I read in one post that you can make it to the end of the program and BUST on your check ride…that’s gotta suck. Granted that this is one of the least expensive ways going the “direct” route. I think about 10-12 grand? Not all too bad compared to the other programs. But you really don’t get to build hours incase this doesn’t work out.

Talking with Flight Safety, they have a pretty good name in the industry, with their program you will KNOW if you are hired by an airline before you start the training. If you do get a conditional offer, you finish up the program...and like all other programs you are swimming in there pool. I think they have ASA, XJet, AEagle….I think that runs about $25 thousand(?)But then again you also have the chance of washing out with them…

ATP, cost the most with there ‘direct track’ I think it’s around 32 thousand last time I checked. That’s a pretty hefty price tag. Pretty much you fly around in a Diamond, using the glass cockpit and finish the program with about 500 hours. The contract they have with is XJet. The biggest problem I see is that’s a hefty price tag, but if you don’t make it with Xjet they will refund you about 10 grand, and they also hire you back on to build up hours, MULTI ENGINE time, BIG PLUS….but you have to go thru their ACPP…

I am looking to get more insight on the MESA program…and how it compares to the other programs…thanks for any and all help

Did FlightSafety tell you that their program is open to people from outside the school? Or are you planning on finishing your ratings with them?

i've heard the same thing about the schools, I am leaning toward flight safety and PACE...

FS said if you go thru there program you don't need to do the evaluations...but like me, I am going to an FBO, once I complete that I can do an Eval with them in a M/E and S/E, I guess they want to make sure that you are capable of flying and want to see how your instrument skills are. I think that cost about 5 g's for someone that didn't go thru there program and wants to go thru their direct program But the good thing is even before you drop the 20 grand, you will know that you have a interview COE

Okay, stupid question I guess. If you're getting your CFI ratings, why are you looking into PACE or ATP? Or are you looking at instructing there? It would seem to me that you'd either get the CFI ratings and instruct or complete one of the programs. Doing both seems like a tremendous waste of money.

Yes, I single-handedly ruined the industry by voting Yes for our current CBA. Whatever. If you believe that crap fed to you by the whiners of the world, then I have some nice swampland to sell you. None of these pissants worked here during our negotiations, therefore none have any right to say jack [censored] about us. Feel free to ask around at Southwest, America West, Frontier, AirTran, FedEx, and jetBlue. They all hate Mesa pilots so bad ... yet seem to hire so many.

Don't worry about being in such a hurry to get that regional job. Try to spend as little as possible. If you're going to get your instructor tickets, then start teaching. When you can do 135 VFR, do it. When you hit 1000 TT, apply everywhere. That will take maybe a year, and you'll be making money the entire time, rather than making some CEO richer.
