Merger between US Airways and America West.

I imagine they won't re-paint everything right off the bat. They'll probably (if they're smart) work it the same way SWA is doing it. As a plane comes in and NEEDS to be repainted, then it'll get the new paint job. Saves operating costs that way, and the plane isn't taken out of service for an incovenient cosmetic fix.

But is it agreed that the new airline does need a livery to reflect the new combined corporations identity and promise right?
Lastly Smitty depending on the complexity of the new livery it could actually be cheaper to repaint.
Prime example would be United there old livery was multi-colored ie more expensive.
Their current livery is solid white with only two colors. So there saving monies vs. repainting in the old livery come D-check time!

I read that that America West's CEO will be the CEO for the "new" airline.

Since they are going to keep the current name, why not get a new paint scheme to start fresh?

I would think because AW only has like 90 airplanes, and US Airways has over 450...(US Airways Express included).
