Meigs - 10 years later

I grew up near Meigs field and one of the items on my bucket list was to land there. Well 10 years later, the place is an empty bike path that is rarely used.

I'm not sure if there is any hope or effort going on to bring the airport back but I do hope Friends of Meigs can gather enough cash and support to start the process especially with Daley out of office. Meigs was amazing landmark in Chicago and many folks miss it dearly.

Me bashing people? Where did I personally attack an individual over their views? I'm trying to bring up my point of view and I have individuals say this? Really?!?!?
 
Meigs has great memories. First de-icing, first time I saw a pilot ordered to "taxi to the base of the tower and shut down your engine," and where I was stuck for a week while waiting for winter weather to clear.

They ought to bury Daley there, under a 6,000' x 300' concrete grave marker with "18" at one end, "36" at the other, and lots of lights all around so people can't miss it or ever forget what he did.

Nope, not that I'm aware of. ALPA wants to reduce the tax burden on airlines, but they've never made it specifically about user fees. Some of us just realize that user fees are really the only viable option for reducing the tax burden on airlines and forcing GA to bear their fare share of the burden.

Meigs is a big part of my flying history. It was a common destination during my time at 2 corporate gigs and one charter.

It was always quite a sight to fly left base for 18 near Navy Pear and look down the canyon of glass and steal.

I remember eating lunch at the planetarium and the yacht club across the street.

After I got married my wife use to come on day trips with me and we'd walk downtown through the park while we waited for the boss.

It's also the place of not so great memories. It was there that after landing and opening the door I was informed by a Signature employee that a plane had just flown into the World Trade Centre. I remember a bunch of us huddled in the managers office watching the news reports on TV when the second plane hit. This left me stranded in Chicago with the airplane while I waited for Meigs to be the last airport in the country to open for departures.

I remember the pilots lounge that in the winter time you had to stuff newspapers between the panes of glass to try and stay warm.

I remember waiting for the wind to die down because they closed the airport when the wind was out of the east or west at greater than 25.

You do understand him and I are BFFs. My wife said while looking at my phone the other day that if a stranger looked at my phone they would not be able to tell if I was married to her or amorris311. It is called busting his chops.

Also can you point out to me where I had comments edited by the mods? Also if I was personally bashing someone would I have gotten a card for that?

Not sure which thread but both you and amorris311 have comments <reedited>. Think it was the save the controller thread.
