ME-262

And to think back in WWII, the pilots ran the crap out of the engines to the point that the TBO on most warplane engines was about 200 hours. A buddy of mine flew P-40s and P-38s in New Guinea and the Philippines. He tells storys of how the pilots abused the engines. Heck, they didn't care. The airplane got the equivalent of a 100-hour inspection every night and it was no big deal just to hang a new engine on.

I want to buy the tooling and jigs for the p-51. Make new ones. I imagine you'd be up to your eyeballs in orders. Not sure what I'd do for an engine... maybe there are still some RR Merlin engines in crates somewhere. You can still buy a brand new crated R985 so....

I can't remember the name of the company, but based out of KSNS is the company that owns the type certificate for the P-51 and are building brand new P-51 Mustangs. They restored this bad boy in the process too:

That two-seater 262 looks really odd. I assume that's a modern invention. Another interesting factoid: the first 262s were tail-wheel.

Apparently they had 2 seaters that were eventually used as night fighters, either way I actually kind of like the way it looks.

I'd partner with Basler and hang a PT-6 up front. That'd be a monster.

Not sure if you mean "Rotax" or "Rotec" - which builds the radials now. In fact, there are some guys building three Rose Parakeets and hanging Rotec R2800 radials on them. Should look pretty cool when done.
