MCAS F/A-18 crash update.

Now here is another factor. At the specific point in time when ATC asked him if he wanted NZY for a divert; he was single engine? From what I'm getting, he didn't have prblems with the second engine till he was feet dry and entering the down wind. Was that a major factor as to the squardon telling him to return to to Miramar versus a divert?

I think you may be correct. Don't know if that figured in....I'd really like to know the "undisclosed" reason NZY wasn't available..

Remember the last F/A-18 accident there? Night bingo divert from the boat to RW 36, landed, overran the runway, missed the long-field arresting gear and ended up in San Diego bay?

Oh I remember that one. The Hornet has had a problem with it's brakes for quite some time. This particular mishap was sue to a wiring bundle that had been severed.

The AMO got canned as well.
That sucks. Anytime I think of AMO I htink of the last two I had. Both great pilots and awesome officers.

Adak, Alaska.

Johnson Atoll, Pacific

Wake Island, Pacific

Cape Newenham Air Force Station, AK

Shemya, AK.

No seriously.....generally removed from position and sent to a desk job somewhere

Or sometimes promoted.....I kid you not. Proof that you can drop bombs off range in TX, hit a mobile home, and still make full Colonel and do Air War College in residence.
:D
Funny thing is, even if you do good you still get stuck in office job. Though I would imagine it would be a major difference in jobs.

Good question! Seems very easy for investigators to monday morning qb, but again we don't know what was said on squadron comm and to be honest I really don't know a whole lot about this situation at all.

do Air War College in residence.

Speaking of. What a crock of sheet.

One Maj. in my sq did ACSC in residence, and THEN did it in CORRESPONDENCE because he'd look bad against guys who had both on their sheet.

Flippin BS. And this is AFRC for Chrissake.
