The 35,000+ pilots of American, Delta, Northwest, United, and USAir have done a heck of a lot more to damage the standing of this profession than anything a couple of hundred Skybus or GoJet pilots could ever do. Yet all we ever hear about is how it is the SB and GJ pilots that are screwing it up for everybody.
The aforementioned AMR etc pilots were union pilots with signed contracts that represented 50+ years of union effort. They didn't have to agree to anything. The company could not "make" them do anything they didn't want. They had a choice. They could have chosen to stand tall and not play an active part in the decimation of the profession. Yet one by one, they all caved in to management demands, merely to save their own necks. Then, in order to save face, the ALPA propaganda machine spun into high gear and started pointing the finger of blame at the pilots of the so called LCC's and upstart carriers, as though a couple of hundred pilots at the bottom of aviation's hierarchy could somehow have destroyed things for everybody.
