Marijuana being considered for pilots

Just happens to be where we work. The 28 days off to me just screams legalese: You can’t practically smoke but it’s allowed.

On the FAA medical form you have to declare if you’ve smoked the devils lettuce in the last 3 years. Check that box and your career is over.

Either way my dream of blazing a J with the homies on a backpacking trip in the Cascades and showing up to work the next week stone cold sober is not possible.

All that really needs to change is an oral swab saliva test to replace urinalysis. It looks back 72 hrs instead of 30 days. I could easily work with that and be able to enjoy my life in private and show up for work sober and professional. However I have zero faith in our society to figure this out.

Agreed on the recency thing, but my question was about whether other airlines that fly domestic NB typically get 28 days off? None of my friends at Delta, United, American flying NB (I'd include SWA but I don't any friends that went there) are getting those kinds of non-schedules. Vacation and trip dropping would be the most likely methods, not only at our shop, but also every one of those.

I’ve been taking a hard look at the DAL contract but I’m entirely focused on reserve. IDK other shops contracts for MAX time off. I know it’s basically not possible for our contract.

Got an answer for you:

You’d need 18 days of vacation for a month off at AS. So an improvement of 20%. He says he can get close to 7 weeks off in a row at DAL.

He’s not flying narrow body but it seems theoretically he could do a bong rip and then enjoy 7 weeks off. That is if we had Canadian rules regarding the devils lettuce. You could have a beard too.

For all of JC’s focus on Fascism you’d think there would be more focus here.

We have imax at AA and can get up to 3 months off. Last year, I got 80ish. This year, I’ll get 75ish.
 
I think that this is a way for people to use it as treatment while on disability/out for an injury and intentionally not for recreational use

canadian airline pilots are almost as bad (sometimes worse off) as the euros regarding contract and work rules
 
I could easily get rid of the 2 2-day trips I have at the end of September and bid the first 10+ days of October off and get 45-50 days off.

Your cozy situation in a country club base should not be considered the norm.

Contractually it takes 18 days of vacation to be exempt from bidding. But of course you somehow take that personally like a petulant child.

Either way if anyone reports they have used the devils lettuce in the last 3 years per the FAA MedExpress form they are losing their career.

lol dude, WTF is wrong with you? Do you honestly think it’s hard to do what I did? I’m simply giving a data point in contrast to your never-ending doom posting. I don’t take anything personally, especially coming from you. I’m sorry you moved to Seattle where the trips are horrible but at some point you have to own that. Go touch grass man, just don’t smoke it.

I dunno, I could probably do the same thing in SEA, especially with a few vacation days in the mix. I still think comparing NB to WB schedules is a little apples and oranges. The industry standard in WB seems to be, if you so choose, to stack 2 weeks, and then have basically 30 days (or more, like you said) in between. Like you said, you are also talking about reserves, which isn't the vast majority of the operation, and especially not comparable. 12 day off guarantee is a little harder to manage than a min credit line with 18-20 days off already built in. PBS has been pretty good about lumping those off-days together, if preferenced. Or at least mostly together.

I'm not sure what imax is, but at eskimo we have VRBOs and ILs. I've done both and they're great. VRBO is you get a reduced line, normally about ~35-40 hrs and fly those trips. The even better deal is an IL, where you get paid 40 hrs to stay home the entire month, though the company offers those really only in the very low months. You aren't allowed to pick up extra in either case, but I could have done multiple VRBOs in a row and arranged them in a manner to get 6+ weeks off in a row easily. I used the June VRBO to get the latter half of the month off, so I could go on a trip with the fam to Europe. We had VRBOs all winter and spring. They didn't go super senior.

Imax is a company imposed limit that looks back on the last 12 months and limits you to 1080 hours of credit. Someone way smarter than me figured out if you fly relatively high time and then strategically bump up your credit during a couple of months, you hit the limit and get paid minimum guarantee to sit at home. You can’t do any straight time during these months, but can do premium.

It takes some pre-planning and some luck, but is a pretty nice benefit that the company didn’t think of when they implemented it. Last year, I got half of September and all of October and November off. I’ll get roughly the same this year, but most of September, all of October, and most of November off.

Thats pretty rad. I don't really understand the company's original intent with that one, but nice!
