Why didn't he open an overwing exit.? Its not like the instructions on how to do so isn't in every seat back pocket or anything like that....

Assuming he was paying attention to the brief. Or at worst, has ever looked in any seat back pocket on any airliner ever flown on.

I can see how this could happen.. Sitting in 19C (or is it D now?) and huddled up against the window could be easy to miss someone if the FA's just doing a quick walk through.

As I said, if he'd been paying attention or had even flown before, he'd know how to get out of the airplane, and where the 50+ instruction cards telling you how to do so are located.
