I liked Postman and Waterworld. Those post apocalyptic movies are cool.

Agree.

Movie night!

The problem is, is that if you want to tell a story and it's a big budget, then it's got to be all things to all people. And that doesn't work.

Like how the first "Matrix" rocked, but then, the budget got bigger and they tried to make the next two for the masses and they absolutely BLEW.

They did alright with the Mad Max movies. Mad Max beyond Thunderdome is got to be my all time favorite.

If you liked "The Postman" then do not - I repeat - do NOT read the book.

I would have liked the book, I think, had I not seen the movie. The movie is very, very different from the book.

Anyway - I was thinking about this last night whilst watching The Walking Dead. Writers have been going post-apocalyptic since Gutenburg, I think, and most of them seem to take society and return it to barbarity. I don't particularly agree with the separatist-militia-survivalist-gun-nuts, but at least I'm starting to sort of understand what they're afraid of.

It's called Dystopian Society. Or so Wikipedia tells me.

Sorry to be the person who disagrees here, but The Postman and Waterworld were when Kevin Costner jumped the shark. Perhaps literally -- did he jump one in Waterworld?

After Bull Durham and Field of Dreams, did he do anything useful?

Uh, pretty sure he gave that heartwarming performance in Swing vote.

He wasn't that bad in the Jack Ryan flick. I haven't seen the other new movies he has been in though.
