Luggage Works or Wal-Mart?

So I just got hired on at the regionals, my first airline experience,

Should I splurge the money to get the Luggage Works, or should I keep it cheap and plan on replacing my bag every few months?

Keep in mind that I can get a "decent" piece of luggage at the Ross store for $40 that might hold up a few months.

Also Keep in mind that I am a flight instructor (broke) going to first year regional pay (broke)

Are the better bags worth the extra $$$? What options are out there other than Luggage works?

I would just get the Aluminum luggage works. When I flew charter and corporate, I pretty much had one fairly cheap American Tourister type bag. That immediately fell apart at the airlines, so I bought a plastic LW. That fell apart in a year. Then somebody gave me a Travelpro. I wore the wheels out in 4 months. Finally I said screw it and bought the legit metal LW. It has been bulletproof, and it's nice to finally have a bag that lasts.

There is a reason you see so many of them. The things are solid. If you are that broke, a cheap bag will make it a year or so, but you will end up buying the LW bag eventually.

LW bags are wonderful - very high quality and they will last you forever.

Remember that with a cheaper bag you run the risk of the thing busting open or a wheel failing someplace random. That said, the LW bags are expensive - you may need to go with something cheap, avoid checking it at all costs, and replace it as soon as you can save up the simoleons.

Yes.

Yes.

Seriously, cheap bags are not worth it. They won't hold up, you'll wind up buying more than one, you won't have your stuff as well protected and you'll want to chuck the thing out the window sooner rather than later. What are you going to do when it breaks while on a trip?

Luggage works.

After 6 years, it's still going strong. Replaced the wheels and bearings about 2 years ago, but other than that, haven't touched it.

Meanwhile, I'm nearly on my third flight case. Should have dropped the money on a good one in the first place. Then again, EFBs are "just around the corner".

LW Metal. It's a bit heavier than typical suitcases, but it holds up well. Mine looks pretty much new after 2 years.

Luggage Works! I have one and it's the bomb! Now that I go back and forth between MSP and ATL, as well as out to some of our heavy check locations on occasions, It's a wonderful thing to have!

I used to hate them, thought they looked terrible, heavy, sharp edges, etc.

And then I got hired at a regional and thought I'd be ok revolting against LW with a travelpro

AND THEN I made it through about 4 trips before I noticed damage that would eventually make me have to get a new bag in short order. My thought at that point was to quickly retire the travelpro and give it to my handler for her suitcase before it was demolished. Why destroy a nice bag and then replace anyways later?

Thats when I had a come to jesus moment with LW, never again will I purchase any other bag. They even truely feel like they are designed to haul around heavy flight bags, effortless airport truckin. Unlike the competitors IMO

Short story long, just buy one.

I've been lucky with the Costco bag. But most of the time it doesn't get thrown in the back by the handlers. That being said I'm buying a LW in the near future. Looks more pilot-y and has more external pockets.

I had the LW plastic until extensive damage forced me to go with the LW metal. Wish I would have gone with the metal in the first place. Been happy ever since.
